Very good documentary on this evening on Unreported World on Channel 4 all about the forthcoming referendum on abortion.

Pity it had to show some of the looney left and the religious right in all their pomp as some of the scenery was spectacular.

Not a bad documentary all the same

I was in town at the weekend and the pro life fella was giving out leaflets on Red Square, if he had come near me I would have told him what a show both him and the other lot made of the city.
Th referendum will be a nightmare with as was seen on the programme, loons on both sides.

Unfortunately like the same sex marriage referendum it brings the worse in the left and the right in my opinion and brings all the looneys to the surface. Wish the referendum would just come and go as all you will have in the build up is a load of liberal types wanting to be offended and plenty of pro lifers only happy to wind them up.

    The show was very good.

I had those pro lifers call to my house last week about 9 at night. They were sent away fairly fast. The old man wanted to try push his views on me but the old lady had sense and made him leave when I told them I had no interest in their leaflets and one sided view.

He is such a scumbag. The way he spoke to people during the marriage referendum really made me sick, he actually takes pleasure In upsetting people.

Yeah he's a sick individual. He specialises in terrorising women who have had abortions due to fatal foetal abnormalities, with the gore-porn he seems to get off on.

It was hard to watch the other night, and even worse that Waterford featured so prominently. That said, there's fellas like him all over the country.

Is that that that overweight baldy fella who put me in bad form?

    What a cnut

Plenty of them at the start at the protest by the bullpost. People shaking out and being unable to control their emotions. Looneys on both sides as I said.

The woman who was "shaking out" is the woman who was diagnosed as having a fatal foetal abnormality during pregnancy and had to return to hospital week after week to check for a foetal heartbeat, instead of being able to terminate the pregnancy in Ireland.

She was extremely distressed because of the graphic, vile and in many cases mocked-up images of "aborted" foetuses which were being displayed on large posters by the anti-choice crowd.

That alright with you? You'd be cool as a cucumber I presume, but surely you can understand why it would be upsetting for that particular woman?

The pro-lifers have their right to protest and get their opinion across in our democracy as much as the people who want to allow abortion under all or which ever circumstances. People know what to expect and what they are going to bring to table, if it is something that is going to be distressing for another person they should probably isolate themselves from that instead of engrossing themselves in it.

I never said they don't. I was explaining why that woman was so emotionally distressed and asking you if you think she should be called a looney. You still haven't answered that.

A woman who has been so poorly treated by the Irish medical system is not a loony. She is a distressed woman angry at those who would happily maintain the status quo. She was there as someone who has first hand experience (along with others) so the social conservatives would not be the dominant voices.

Very odd to call any person who has been failed by our health services a looney, in basically almost every other European country she would have gotten the medical support and care she needed.

Purposely failing to provide medical care to any women is our failure and no doubt is going to cause any women distress and upset and may even effect her overall mental health. I know if my wife had to go through such a situation I would also be upset for her and the fact that our country had failed us.

But you go right ahead and try be "clever" with your flippant and insulting comment about such things, not a great reflection on you and it gives a very dim view on your attitude to mental health.

Im gonna be honest I kinda cringed when I saw people bringing their religious beliefs into the argument , one guy said " our bodies are not our own, our bodies are the temple of the holy spirit " & then another guy with rosary beads , if you re trying to get younger people on the fence to side with your argument , bringing your personal religious beliefs into it isn,t the way to win over undecided people .

Regarding the graphic posters displayed by some pro life campaigners in Ballybricken that day, from a PR point of view they can be counter productive, posters that are more PR friendly Id favour- ( please note disclaimer ) even though I disagree with the graphic posters being displayed I don,t think they should be stopped or prevented from displaying such posters, I might disagree with the graphic posters being displayed But I ll still defend their right to freedom of expression.

The woman shown in Unreported world who did the live facebook video in Ballybricken, in cases such as hers & other women who find themselves in the position that the unborn baby won,t survive outside the womb, in such cases I think there should be an exception under the law- if someone is in a fatal accident & he/she is on life support there may come a time where the doctors know he/she isn,t gonna make it & they withdraw life support or someone is terminally Ill on life support there may come a time where the doctors know he/she isn,t gonna make it & they withdraw life support ending a pregnancy when the unborn baby has no chance of survival outside the womb is kinda the same thing when life support is withdrawn to someone who isn,t gonna make it,, + when the unborn baby has no chance of survival outside the womb its wrong to prolong the pain on both the unborn baby as well as prolonging pain for the mother, I could support a reform of the 8th to allow for that exception ( in cases when the unborn baby has no chance of survival outside the womb ), but I do not support a repeal of the 8th.

Look I was literally saying it as I saw it on the TV. Looneys on both sides. Chanting silly slogans and holding up banners that looked to have been done by some junior infants. Obviously others have got their knickers in a twist on this thread but I still stand by what I said. I didnt realise the lady in question had been affected in such a way but They all still look like a bunch of looneys and if protesting has this impact into them regardless of their history they should probably isolate themselves from it.

And so the social conservatives who wish it was about 1954 win the day, every day....if you believe in something you have to fight for it.
