Switch for bathroom light fitting

    They recommended the main switch as they assumed it was in a safe zone outside the bathroom.

    It's good advice, if your proposal puts a light switch above a cabinet where wet hands will use it then it won't work, unsafe.

    If you must have it in the room than a pull cord is your best option. Is the fitting available with a pull cord built in ?

    That will not stop an electrician installing a pull cord switch external to the light to control it.

    Also if there are is new wires installed for this, then they must be protected by an rcd to comply with current regulations
