Honestly, it was so stupid I didn't actually think is need to point out it was sarcasm

Sorry! (there are some pretty stupid posts around today).

Fair play to the Government and to the emergency committee and to MET Eireann. While the red warning did not materialize for some of the country, countless lives have being saved by that call last night.

In Virginia in Cavan, wind here seems the strongest/most persistent it has been all day.

Great coverage on RTE all day.I know it is a much maligned organisation here on Boards.ie,but great credit must go to today's coverage. Also Met Eireann has been outstanding over the past few days, especially Joanna Donnelly all weekend and herself and Gerry Murphy on TV and Radio today as well as Evelyn Cusack on the Emergency Committee

I disagree about RTE. When there is a state of national emergency there shouldn't be several advertisments delaying access to warning reports and such.

Daithi doing a cooking spot on Rte when about 400,000 people can't cook tonight

    Not great thinking there tbh

There a Minister on RTE Radio at the moment and he just claimed that they have been warning people to stay indoors since Friday. What a blatant lie!

Several counties have had a red warning since then they were all advised to remain indoors dueing it since then too

I know its the completely wrong forum for this but I cant wait to see what Paul Murphy tries to blame on the organs of the state for the last 24 hours :-)

Strong gusts starting here in Donegal. Been raining all day but quite heavy now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 353 ✭✭ThaitaniumM

Just to compare Ophelia with Darwin again. Although Ophelia was weaker than Darwin. The most significant part of the storm was the timing and positioning. Majority of trees still had their leaves and were more prone to being blown over by strong gusts. With Darwin, trees had already shed their leaves.
I would also point out that the jet stream was a lot stronger with Darwin and had a more pronounced sting jet than Ophelia.

Starting to pick up here now in Dublin. Still no sign of any rain.

Let's wait and see. Hard to believe that right now based on what I'm looking out at.

So if you agree that those appointments shouldn't be cancelled, maybe you should be on the phone ensuring that they don't have to be just because the state isn't providing free childcare tomorrow?"

How do I make sure they are not cancelled? Do I Magic up a Mary Poppins to mind my two kids? Someone they have never met or I have never met? And who said anything about free childcare? My kids go to an insanely expensive private Creche!

But those who can't cook also can't watch Tele so what's the harm?

    Brightening up here in Clare.
    I think it's calming down....
There's some right selfish fckrs out there, having the Lahinch surf shop camera on constant so nobody else can have a peek...
    I just don't get it

Just saw three swans in V-formation flying completely sideways and backwards in a particularly strong gust. They were squawking in complete disgust ...poor things

People just love a moan about RTE, so any excuse really

might not have been a full red warning for Dublin, but what about the people that commute to the city - and they were coming from (or trying to get back to a red warning zone)??? feck them.. they're not from dublin -> so they don't count???

Had the warning not been in place I'd have been stranded in Dublin with no way home as Irish rail stopped my service .. but because it was in place I got sent home at 9.30 this morning

but with the way people are posting it feels that I don't count because the wind didn't blow as hard in Dublin and I don't live there!!??

Where I am at the moment (Swords) the only thing that is really unusual is some moron who decided to fire off fireworks for the past 15 minutes.

Otherwise it's windy with sporadic cloud coverage and no rain since this morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,109 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

With 3 dead you can't really complain about the red warnings.

Worst gusts of the day so far now on the northside of Dublin.

Well if they can’t cook tonight they can’t watch the segment either so makes no difference.
