I'm in McDonald's and they're closing down their stores in the city centre. A decision they should have made at 9am when Dublin Bus stopped. Staff on minimum wages now having to find a way home via taxi or lift.

And if a gust toppled a double decker noone would blame them?

More that they could have made this call last night, to be fair.

Last I checked we didn't live in North Korea and the Taoiseach didn't dictate how businesses operate. If business decides to open and bring in their staff, that's an issue between themselves.

Which is why i said advised . I am well aware where we live thanks

Has Ireland every experienced 170km+ gusts, on record anyway?

    Yes. 112 mph in 1961.

Power out in lots of pockets of West Cork and winds gets scary. House is shaking and a lamppost outside is swaying.

Heavy enough winds in gorey but nothing it hasn't seen before

I wonder will it be severe as expected, doubt it very much
And if not, let's be thankful ...

If met.ie had downplayed it and been wrong, the whole country would want to string them up!

Tripe. For me anyhow, I prefer listen to actual EXPERTS, ya know Meteorologists and the like. Is the Taoiseach a Meteorologist? I wasn't aware he was anyhow....
Political point scoring is all the likes of you are after, just using the storm for political opportunism to have a whine about the Govt.
For once, I agree with you road_high!

R116 is on scene along with Clogher Head Lifeboat

These guys (if still missing) are in serious trouble.

Absolutely stupid to be out wind surfing on a day like today

So selfish to be putting the lives of the rescue crew in danger

The point in trying to make is that we are an island +we get battered by storms all the time especially on the west. So far we have had much worse storms then this. Yes things might change but not so far. So yes I do think over hyped. I know it's not hit Dublin yet but hasn't hit a lot of South coast as bad as they said either.

But all the evidence suggest that this is not the usual storm. So isn't it proper to try to plan to minimise the potential damage?

You are ignoring the evidence of all the experts on the basis of what you expect to be the usual. You do know that unusual things do actually happen from time to time?

They clearly communicated that services would stop at 10.
Last night at 11.20 or so? They didn't. They said services would become curtsiled/impacted after 10am, until at least 6pm and that they'd review the situation further. Nothing about a complete cessation of service.

It's nice in Galway all morning. Breezy but also bright with lots of blue skies.
I expect it will be very different in 2 hours.

People just passed on their horses here with 2 kids, some people are truly mental.

Anyway it's quite gusty, we're on a high altitude here in the the very southwestern backbutt of Wicklow.

Not going to be nice in certain areas of Wicklow as some are very exposed. Winds get funneled through valleys.

These guys (if still missing) are in serious trouble.

And we laugh at the Americans when a sheriff has to release a statement not to shoot at a hurricane.

If these guys went kite surfing then sorry fook them, the rescue crews should return to station.
There will be people in real need of their services.

In days gone by these muppets would be the ones eaten by a bear or wolves.

I am not allowed discuss …
