This sounds like negligent behavior on their part, both last night and today.

Yup, I've disliked the place for a while, but really showed how they care for their staff with this. There are people travelling an hour to get home after coming in

Picking up here in West Clare, no damage currently, although can hear distant house alarms. Some weird sunshine shining on the Shannon.

Noticed that too in Clonmel. It's really odd to see the sun splitting the stones while trees are nearly blowing over.

THIS IS NOT A TYPICAL WINTER STORM

Why are people still trying to convince themselves this won't be too bad?

Not trying to convince anybody of anything, i closed up today and sent everybody home based on the reports/forecast on the news.
Simply saying that as of now 10:23am it is not that bad where I am.

I thought the post service was suspended today? Our poor postman is out and about, in an understandable rush.

In south Roscommon, getting gusty now, and no rain.

    Nothing can stop the post!

Is it safe to have a fire lit with a back boiler if the power goes out. Water boiling and no pump to circulate it??

National hurricane centre and Gerry Murphy at odds about the winds in the west

Bit late no? Poor performance, should have made an announcement yesterday. The storm will have hit the south by the time he comes on. Ridiculous situation!

Leo going to address the country. Bit late.

What are you talking about, it hasn’t even hit South Dublin yet! :P

Getting quite gusty here in Ringsend, clouds really racing along.

Leo missed his shot. Its times like this when a difficult decision needs to be made that you need somebody strong who is willing to make a call and stick with the decision. Leo is afraid to stick his neck out thats obvious now.

He should of ordered all non essential services and private businesses to stay closed and he should of done it yesterday evening. Apple in Cork last night sent a mass text not to come in. Thats about 3500 - 4000 people on one site - that supports Apples global operations and they had the foresight to make the call.

I thought Enda was gutless, but this was pathetic. (BTW i am a Fine Gael supporter )

Incredibly mild here considering the wind is blowing from the sea - 18 deg at Dun Laoghaire harbour. Wind should stay SSE in this part of the country for another few hours before veering almost due south.

    No it isnt safe.

If you do light it and the power goes....close all vents and draughts to it.

DO NOT POUR WATER ON IT

If gets very bad extinguish with a bucket of sand.
