2012 VW Golf fuse issue

Looking for some help here please. I’ve just bought a Mk6 Golf and The 12 v sockets(ciggies lighter and the one in the boot) aren’t working. I checked the fuses and fuse number 42 which I believe to be the correct one was missing. So I popped in the recommended 20A fuse but the fuse won’t actually stay in place,it’s like it’s a spare location or something.

Anyone ever had this issue before?

What info did you use get number 42? These days the fuse map change change even withing the model car depending on engine / options so sound like you have the wrong location.

I got the location from some googling,found it on a few VW Forums. If anyone has some other suggestions as to which location it might be it would be very much appreciated!!

Just check all of the bigger fuses in the fuseboard..anything over 10A...chances are one of them is blown...alternatively, with a good torch you'll see if there's a fuseholder that's empty. I assume you don't have an owner's manual???

Have the manual but it doesn’t give a fuse box diagram. Your suggestion of going through them all til I found one blown worked,low and behold I found a 20A blown. I’ve replaced it and sockets working now,thanks 👍
