Maths, quantum physics and all that jazz, have no logic for all these things.

I don't understand how a Mum, single or not, can get to the point where herself and the kids are homeless, rather than go live outside of Dublin/town.
It's not an insult or trying to píss people off, I just genuinely can't understand. If I was in that position, I would be ready to start and try any kind of a new life.
People move all the time, families move. Kids move schools. People make new friends, weave a new web of support wherever life sends them. Having family near where you live is great, but if you're unemployed and about to be homeless, it's not something that should hold you in one spot.

Also : I grew up in France my entire school years were uniform free.
Never ever was bullied. In 2nd yr there'd be a few idiots starting off on what brand of shoes you were wearing or whatever, and they'd be quickly dismissed and shut down as losers. Think about it. In a class you may have one guy or one girl stupid enough to start something like that. Most kids are decent, so if you're the one in the class who can't afford Nike shoes, they'll support you, not the bully. Every one develops their own style around that time too, in my time people turned punk, or emos, or casual/sporty, funk, or fashion afficionado ... We all just got over talking about someone's style very quickly, because we were friends or acquaintances before they became punk/emo whatever, the clothes didn't make a difference.

People who own cars but use public transport to get to work.

You see this here in Dublin. People will drive to their local train station, park their car and hop on the train to get to work. I get it that parking in town (Dublin City Centre) is too expensive so that's not an option... but then why have a car as it's a costly thing to pay for knowing you don't get the full use out of it.

Parking at the train station is not free too. You think since you have to use public transport then just cut the car out and use public transport totally

How do I upload pictures from photo bucket to boards? I want to post pictures of my pets in the cool pets thread. I set up a photo bucket account and uploaded pictures to it but when I tried to embed them in a post on boards I failed :o

Try Tiny Pic and upload the file to that plus it's more private.

Travelling to the train station would take too long without a car.

Also there is this weird new European thing that's really taken off. It's called a weekend, and people don't actually work on it.

Bizarre and crazy concept, but it might take off

Why Electric Ireland are giving considerable grants (amounting to thousands of euro in the form of bill reductions in my case) to people to put energy saving devices into their homes - when EI make their money by selling energy. Surely they are doing themselves out of business?

    Electric Ireland Energy Efficiency Incentive

Full list of Electric Ireland bill credits

According to Bonkers.ie their gas is cheaper than competitors even without this (Energia has the cheapest electricity). It's not like they are going to get it all back because they are charging more than their competitors.

Here in Ireland, ESB buy electricity from people with wind turbines etc. So grant aiding these projects seems silly.
BUT they pay you a lower rate than comparable EU power suppliers, and they apply a quota on the power you can get paid for.
So you might supply all your quota of power in 6 months, and then the ESB gets the following 6 months power you produce absolutely free.
This is why there aren't far more small scale power producing installations around the country.

This should be banned before it sets in, people should be made work longer hours and paid nothing during this time!

You dont need to use either, boards has its own image hosting.

Just select the paperclip icon(attachments), browse to your image and hit upload and it'll attach to the bottom of the post as a link.

If you want to embed it, instead of being a link. Open the link, copy the URL and hit insert image. Paste the URL between [IMG][/IMG] and voila!

Does this work on iPad ? I have tried but can't get it to work - thanks

It isn't just parking is too expensive it just isn't an option for many. Most companies I have worked for have had limited parking going to the people that were in the company earliest. Seen new managers demand parking be taken off longer serving staff members so they could have parking. Some left over the issue.
It is often quicker to use public transport than drive. Cars can be quite cheap to maintain if you do use them much especially as time moves on.

One car between us and it is generally used at the weekend to go shopping mostly and sometimes it doesn't get used for weeks on end. Much prefer a pay by use tax system and insurance.

Nasty people/People who have no personality etc and you find out they STILL managed to get a partner/wife/kids etc. That really is a tough one to take in life at times, seeing the a%%holes get someone in their lives when they should by all rights have nobody.

If I'm filling my car with petrol and I'm gonna pay by debit card...

It might be full at say 35.86euro but I'll always keep filling a bit more to a round number. Makes no sense when paying by card

Why can't the BBC with its massive budget find a few shillings for the technology to use the € symbol? Spelling out Euro each time is beyond belief.

    Really good point !

So annoying to see EUR100 - and not €100 ...

We had a uniform in primary school, the difference was you just bought whatever plain navy jumper/trousers/skirt/pinafore you could afford in the shop and then you bought the school crest from the school to sew on yourself! Much cheaper.

Won't they get bullied wearing the normal clothes then if they can afford the expensive/latest clothes? Especially since they're wearing them for so long because uniforms saving on wear & tear

& what about where they live & what stuff they have? How do you hide that

I came from a fairly poor background , all my early years school photos in primary school where we didn't have to wear uniform looked terrible . And if I'm honest I personally got bullied to a small extent .
As soon as I went to high school all this stopped . Mind you some of that might have been to do with having a meltdown in first week and kicked **** out of a lad in 2nd year .

just means you have a table of equivalent instructions to pick from, and an antivirus only has to look for the table or the code that swaps instructions.

If you wanted to set AX to zero you could
MOV AX, 0 put a zero in AX
XOR, AX,AX sets all bits to 0
SUB AX,AX subtract it from itself

Biological viruses can have hypervariable regions too, which makes it tricky for your immune system.

Why people are obsessed with bloggers, Youtubers, social influencers and the like. They're just ordinary people who, in 99% of cases, aren't doing anything extraordinary to warrant such obsession.

+1000, though sadly they can have much more influence than they merit.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

    Scientology.
I have read dozens of articles about it and seen plenty of documentaries and I just don't get what attracts people to it

I just cannot understand the magnitude of the evil in Auschwitz. Standing there, not too far from the tonnes of human hair, looking at thousands upon thousands of shoes and I come across the thousands of shoes that belonged to little toddlers. Fúcking hell. Christ. The thought. I feel a sickness so deep down at the ineffable depravity of humans when in a particular 'group think' mentality that has divorced itself from treating everybody as humans.

The additionally disturbing thing is that I left there thinking about whether this could happen again and I see no reason why greater technology combined with group think and dehumanisation of other humans couldn't lead to a repeat. Whether it's the rising xenophobia in Britain, Russia or the world of Donald Trump the political leaders of many western world countries seem that bit less enlightened these days.

Atrocities are being constantly repeated since and before, albeit it on a slightly lesser scale. Think man, machette and different tribe, qed. It appears the ability to dehumanise is part of our very fabric.

I just cannot understand the magnitude of the evil in Auschwitz. .

It's shocking but I think it's just in us as a species to do these things. The holocaust is shocking in it's scale and barbarity, but the only thing that really separates it from other genocides is it's assembly line style industrial nature.
Makes no odds whether you're loaded on a train and shipped to a purpose built extermination camp, or you're chopped up by a tribseman with a machete, or your intentionally starved to death in an avoidable famine - you're just as dead!
The additionally disturbing thing is that I left there thinking about whether this could happen again .

Can happen, has happened and will happen again.

As an example, India fought with the allies in WW2 against the "evil" of the Nazis, as the war was coming to an end, the Nazis defeated - a famine hit Bangladesh - the British refused point blank to help despite actually having a huge food surplus plus an armada of ships passing by! 3 million of their allies starved. There's a very good revisionist history podcast about it.

    http://revisionisthistory.com/episodes/15-the-prime-minister-and-the-prof

Actually the whole series is well worth a listen.
