Breaffy & Ballintubber games are a double header in McHale Park Sat evening.
Mitchels and Knockmore play Sat eve too in Ballina.

Think Ballina are on Sunday but can't remember where.

Not a bad double header, game of the round without a doubt pits Knockmore against the Mitchels.

Going to be a hard road for Mitchels to retain it. I'm not sure who they would have preferred to get. With their 2nd place, it had to be one of Breaffy, Ballintubber & Knockmore. One of the fancied teams was going to be out this weekend anyway.

Those "competitive challenges" didn't count for much when they played a true competitive game this weekend. Castlebar might have a tougher road than expected but they are still very much the team to beat in the knock stages in Mayo.

They should have been playing their intermediate team who shipped 9-14 to Moy Davitts.

Definitely something gone wrong at the Mitchels . The seniors have not won in three matches and the intermediates took an awful beating at the weekend. Not the ideal time of year to be losing form! Maybe a second team at intermediate level is unsustainable? Knockmore will fancy their chances this weekend. Breaffy also playing with great confidence and putting up big scores.

Doesn't look great at all but a win against Knockmore will change that, they've left themselves a hard task of getting back on track. The Ballina game was a surprise but I wouldn't look into the Breaffy league game. They didn't really have the County players and Douglas was off early.

It would open it right up if Knockmore beat them on Saturday.

It was a strike off the ball and Fergal Boland scored four points. Ross Egan u19 was Aghamores best player scoring 7 (2f).

    Castlebar bt Knockmore
    Westport bt Ballinrobe

Breaffy up at HT by the smallest of margins, 0-8 to 1-4.

Breaffy out, beaten by a point.

Breaffy 0-12 Claremorris 1-10 a shock result there.

Breaffy should have them beat out the gate, they missed three good goal chances. Fair play to clairemorris for getting the result.

Hollymount and Ballintubber to do it all again during the week.

Knockmore were very unlucky against Castlebar, will be kicking themselves, missed 3 great goal chances, the class of Kirby/Durcan got them over the line,Durcan with a fantastic goal, Knockmore gave them a scare in the last 15 mins brought it to within 2 from 6 down , don't think Castlebar are as strong this year

Yip great summation, good win for the Mitchels. The class of Paddy Durcan told in the end, ably assisted by his brother James. Some very good saves by Ruari Byrne although his kickouts were problematic throughout.

Knockmore made all the early running but Mitchels clawed their way back into the game.Shane McHale and Peter Naughton stood out for Knockmore.

Mitchels were a different animal in the second half as Paddy become more involved as he pushed up whilst marking Kevin Mc.

Young Johnny Maughan looks a good prospect and Shane Irwin put in a good hour.Mitchels certainly look more vulnerable than previous years.I thought Danny Kirby was below par today.David Stenson impresses as a free taker.

Was at the book launch in Bridge St on Friday night, a book about retirement by sportspeople and how they handled it written by the producer of the Sunday Game, An Oranmore man, big hurling man.

They had lined up Thomas O Shea and MOM as part of the line up but they didn't make it, so along with Michael Duignan and Eoin Kelly, there was a late sub, Andy!

I finally found out from Duignan, a question, that i'd had the wrong answer for!

Great night, great craic, ah but Andy!, he just wants to make you tear out onto the pitch.

Spoke to him afterwards, there's no bull**** with that man,a gentleman, pure genuine, I would follow him anywhere, massively proud that that man wears the Mayo jersey and represents us as a people.

I'd make him captain next year

Aghamore 0-14 Davitts 1-11 is a result in the senior championship relegation playoff.

Garrymore into the semis. Beat Ballina 4-13 to 1-11.

Any opinions re Paddy Durcan's twin James?I really rate him, very pacy and direct.IMO he would be worthy of consideration for the senior panel.

    Big win for Garrymore!

Mitchels v Garrymore next Sunday at 1.30 or 1.45 depending on the Twitter feeds.

Presumably Claremorris will play the winners of Ballintubber/Hollymount-Carramore in the second game.

Was anyone at the Ardnaree V Kiltimagh game today?
I know Kiltimagh won by 2 but how was the game. Did they deserve the win?

Ardanaree got off to a flyer and were 6 points up after 20 mins. Kiltimagh then made 2 substitutions that helped turn the game, There was 4 points in it at half time but Kiltimagh were much the better team in the second half and were deserving winners, even missing a late penalty but credit to Ardnaree they pushed us all the way

    Thanks man.

Disappointed but there's improvement since last year. After taking so long to get out of junior they're holding their own now. Good luck in the semi.

James had a really good game against Knockmore. Was the one Mitchels forward that stood out. He has the pace to trouble any defender and seems to be improving his end product. Will be interesting to see if he can reproduce this in the semi. Overall thought Mitchels just about deserved the win, despite giving up a few goal chances. Their keeper made two top class saves.

Thought the game itself was a very high standard, no weakness in any positions on either team. Hard tackling and honest play from both teams. Ref also not afraid to pull for holding off the ball . It was mentioned that there was only 5 wides in the whole game! Impressive stat if its true.

Didnt see Garrymore but anyone that was there was very impressed. They play defensive with a rapid counter attack.

Mitchels not the force they were in last few years but still have a lot of quality even if some of the big names are searching for form.

Looked ominous for Garrymore after the first 8 minutes. Ballina has scored 1-05 and hadn't a single wide. Even Ger Caff had got up the filed to score a point. Credit to Garrymore for coming back into it and outscoring there opponents by 4 13 to 6 points for the remainder. Ballina had a man sent off at the start of the second half.
Will fancy a crack at castlebar as they showed them too much respect 3 years ago. When they cut loose and played there own game they had them on the rack. Could be a big few weeks for the south mayo clubs if Holly/Carra overcome the tubber boys.

Yes Kevin Connelly was very good on pulling up for off the ball stuff, reminded me of a certain David Gough but he missed/bottled it on several black card offences.

It was a quality contest without doubt.
