Observing trams leaving Jervis st today got me thinking. Would it make more sense to have Luas seats set up ala London underground? Seats running parallel down each side of the tram? This would allow for more standing passengers. A few grab handles the lenght of the tram for passengers to hold on to could work for standing passengers.

I believe that there is some equipment under some of the raised seats that would not allow you to be able to do it for the whole length of the tram.

Yup. The underlying reason is that the Luas platforms and doors are much lower than a London Underground train (or most other sorts of trains which have an uninterrupted floor on the inside.
