The report on sport background music is intolerable. The removal of this annoyance is a positive.

Wonder what the status of that fifa movie is?

    Not good: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Passions
In the United States, the film grossed just $918 in its opening weekend, was unanimously poorly reviewed, and is now considered to be one of the worst films of all time. Globally, the film lost $26.8 million and failed to obtain a theatrical distribution in many markets.

I didn't see the mistake with yesterday's pod sorted.. not with pocketcasts at least. And still no pod for today. I'm feeling a bit cheated.

Wasn't it a relevant clip from an older podcast with discussion of said clip and other content?

I skipped on a lot of it as it was some Australian talking about racism, but the end was on about Catalonia so it was current.[/quote]

That interview with the Aussie lad must have been a rerun of a previously recorded one then because they were definitely taking about a currently in progress international rules series..

Feel like I cheated myself now by deleting it.

At least I can listen to the rest of it tomorrow.

    Cheers.

Was there not an old one followed by a new one?

Both have the same title, the old one is 54 mins-ish, the new one is 33 mins- ish.

That's what I have, anyway. None for today yet.

I had an old episode incorrectly uploaded as yesterday's episode in my pocketcasts. Had the original interview with the Aboriginal player, talking about the 'upcoming' FIFA movie, and US Murphy's about USA qualifying for the WC. It was only when he was talking about Brazil and Klinnsman that I twigged something wasn't right!!

I haven't got any replacement pod for yesterday through pocketcasts.

These pods are getting shorter - I guess a slow news day is a slow news day..
33 mins with intros etc yesterday..

World Service member since the start but I unsubscribed the other day. Felt like it was just going through the motions recently. Was hoping they might add new podcasts to freshen it up but the podcasts seem to be getting shorter. Love the lads and hope they succeed but I'm going to stick with the Monday podcasts for the time being.

Still listen to it daily but don't pay as much attention to it as I used to.

    For a 5er it's hard to unscribe.

It's €6 incl tax. Not much but I had a few things like that and they start to add up. Cancelled them last week and will save over €50 a month on things I really wasn't getting value from.

Yeah I have been tidying up my subscriptions too and cancelled sky sports - new structure does not interest me

Jaysis what was Ken on about today? Seriously deluded opinions on Players from LOI been ready for international football and been better options that the likes of players playing in England.

On Podcast addict it was an older episode the other day.
US Murph was talking about the 49ers in London and people should go see Colin Kaepernick.
They reuploaded though, and I think that was the intentional one.
    I skipped it anyway!

Yeah he's really changed his opinion even though he never seems to go to LOI games or even mentions it normally!

Did he really say that? I heard it as we don't know if any of them are ready as we never give anyone the chance..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

He didn't say that (that they are better than players from England). He said maybe we should be giving some chances to loi players and that just because someone moves to England doesn't suddenly make them much better players.

On Maguire, I feel he will be a really good player for us over the next 5 years. Would he have been picked by most managers for crucial qualifiers vs Wales and Austria? Nah, I don’t think so.

But Daryl Horgan, richie towell, fotheringham at Peterborough?

These lads tore up the LOI but aren’t proving to be close to the required class- the class been a very good Championship player or average PL player for getting into Ireland’s first team.

So I think when you analyze the point Ken is making well I don’t really think there’s that much substance to it.

Can't argue with horgan, if he was up to it he would be ahead of maguire in that team. Towell had a rotten injury and his club stepped up another level, so I think he has been a victim of circumstance in terms of not getting a run.

So the only issue I have with what you say here is required class. It was mentioned there are other international teams that are doing well without such required class players. Finland being the prime example. You need good players, but home league players shouldn't be excluded just because they play in said home league. With proper coaching and a system, loi players COULD be decent internationals.

I think you are analysing part of his point in fairness to you.

Would say you mean Iceland not Finland.

Towell was unlucky but nearly 2 years on from his move to England there is no proof he will ever get an international cap. Frankly it looks to me that Towell was a bit of a hype job. Why couldn’t he make it at Hibernian, never mind brighton?

You take out a debatable one like Maguire and frankly Ken’s argument kinda fell apart.

Sorry jeez yes - was talking to someone from Finland in work just before posting that. Iceland. Iceland.

Well his point was that the players havent been given a chance.....that maybe both the league and Int team can benefit from a change in thinking with regards to attitudes towards the league.

The level of our players has been in decline IMO for 10 years (in terms of numbers of our players playing in the Prem and/or for a big club in the Prem).

That is continuing now, with our 'best' players playing for Burnley, who are a mid level Prem club. If the decline continues to the point where league 1 players are getting into the Ireland squad; then why not LOI players?

What makes a player who moves to the UK to play for a championship side better than a player getting games regularly for a LOI team/playing in the Europa league?

Full disclosure: i havent been to a LOI game in years and the last one was utter dogsh!te, hence why i stopped going; but the league is always going to be utter dogsh!te unless the standard is raised and the churn of good players going to the UK is slowed.
