Breaking news, so not complete details.

A Ryanair flight from Lithuania to Luton has been escorted by 2 RAF Typhoons into Stansted. The Typhoons were authorised to fly above the speed of sound over land.

There is no information yet available about the reason for the scramble of the fast reaction jets.

Ryanair have released a press statement that Lithuanian authorities received a suspected hoax security alert

Stansted is the nominated airport for diversions of this nature.

The aircraft has landed safely at Stansted, and the passengers will be transported to Luton from there.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Ryanair referring to it as a hoax security claim. If that's true, I hope whoever called it in gets caught and has their arse absolutely handed to them.

Imagine the cost of that operation, not to mention the fear of the passengers.

Pure knackbaggery. What the actual fcuk is wrong with people???

737s can't dump fuel. Also you wouldn't be over MLW diverting from LTN to STN anyway.

    Might it be lost comms??

isn't the procedure for that to proceed to the next way point, hold, then continue to destination? which is what they done here

EDIT: They were going to LTN, so STN wasn't the destination.

    From my initial ATC training....

767/A330 MAY have fuel dumping capability (it's a customer option).

Anything larger does have the capability, anything smaller does not.

Although I'm sure there are exceptions (I know the 707 had it fitted, but I'm thinking current types).

    Seems odd to me.
Did the pilot lose contact or something.
Surely otherwise the pilot would be told to put it on the ground without all the fuss. I thought the fighter escort was normally reserved for plane going off course or generally unresponsive.

What would be the logic of a fighter escort on a bomb threat?

Direct comms to commanders on the ground reporting if anything else fishy is going on, and if push comes to shove, they can choose to shoot the aircraft down over the sea instead of having it blow up over London?
