^^ The Harry Potter and Minion obsession of Penneys is annoying. Apparently you can't dress yourself for bed in there if you don't like looking like an overgrown toddler. Granted there are nice bits in there that aren't child inspired, but jaysus the amount of cartoon sh|t they've printed on everything would drive you mad.
I feel the quality has gotten worse too. Yes it was never great but the material they make their duvet covers out of is horrible and scratchy and smells funky. Their boots look like they stopped the process after the cardboard cut out stage in the design. More often than not I go in, walk around and walk straight out again.

Sports Direct/Heatons/Sports World, what an absolute kip, but what else would you expect from a chain owned by Mike Ashley.

And if everyone buys online from overseas there will be no economy left here. No place to touch and feel goods / ask questions / return goods to easily etc. And our economy suffers hugely if there are fewer or no shops here paying vat , taxes, rates etc.

I used to love going into HMV and Virgin. They always had cool T-shirts and posters. I miss the box sets with interesting covers.

Lildl/Aldi - Eveything I need is in Tesco.

Sex shops - The novelty has worn off.

Sports shops. - I don't wear tracksuits anymore.

    Penneys.

    I was in it yesterday

So you do still go there.

I don't go to bread shops anymore since I've stopped eating donuts, cream buns and slices of cake (over there).

    Dunnes.
    Penneys/Primark.

I was amused to see Waitrose Essentials being sold in Dunnes the last time I was in one of their supermarket sections, as I've always thought of them as the absolute antithesis of the John Lewis Partnership in their approach to management/staff relations.

Try to avoid Tesco - got caught once too often by slippery product placement. Such & such for the price of € and then beside it, the same brand but different packet at full price. That sort of 'deception' is counter productive long term.

Supervalu's Large salt and pepper 1.99 Inc mill from South Africa, you know the ones.

Scanned at self service and 6 euro !

TK MAXX - Can't find anything in there, everything in a heap. Drives me nuts!

for the life of me i can't understand why that shop is so popular:confused:

like you said everything in a heap and genuine bargains are few and far between

Brown Thomas. A temple to consumerism and full of people who have more money than sense.

    Tesco.
    Over priced clothing boutiques.
HMV. I'm not sure it exists anymore but I used to love it.
A-Wear. I stopped going long before they closed.
    Zara. It's a glorified Penneys.
    Debenhams.
Forever 21. I'm all grown up now.
Ms Selfridge. Same as above and I wouldn't get their clothes past my knees or over my head.

I can't buy casual trousers in most high street places because as a grown man I absolutely refuse to wear skinny jeans. They look utterly ridiculous even on skinny guys. Have some self respect.

Barbers. I last went for a haircut when I was about 18 or 19, and it took the barber about 2 minutes, if that, to run the trimmer all over my head.

I thought to myself that I could do that, bought a trimmer, and haven't been to a barber since.

They died in the great supermarket war of 87.

These things gotta happen every five years or so, ten years. Helps to get rid of the bad blood. Been ten years since the last one. You know, you gotta stop them at the beginning. Like they should have stopped Hitler at Munich, they should never let him get away with that, they was just asking for trouble.

I actually find it a bit sad that so many people do most of their shopping on line now. Shops have always been an important part of the community and 'going to the shops' was often a social, as much as a practical, event. That's where people bumped into neighbours, old school friends etc and had a bit of a chat.
I know some things are handier to buy on-line, or not easily obtainable in local shops, but I would hate to see on line shopping take over, and actual shops completely disappear.

I don't. It's sad enough to see shopping centres full of people who have nothing better to do on Sunday or Saturday. Shopping is a chore.

That all depends. For some people, including many elderly, a walk up to the local shops to buy the paper or a few groceries can be an important opportunity for a bit of social contact. Shopping isn't a chore for everyone, and the increased closure of small local shops is detrimental to community life.
