    I vote Chairman Mao!

Former Secretary of the Communist Party of China, the worlds biggest Communist party, and in my view, the best.

Oh I was going to set up a poll, oh well. If a mod could list out some dictators past and present for a poll that'd be great.

Mao was a big-shot socialist despot. Has a chain of low-end Chinese restaurants named after him. Pol Pot was a purest though. He really loved the works of Marx and Engels.

Well, OP, "favourite" is surely not the word to use here, but for the sake of contributing, I will pretend that you said "most interesting" instead. :D

It's the Haitian one, Papa Doc Duvalier. Not only was his son known as Baby Doc, but his murderous, depraved militia/death squads had their MO and imagery rooted deeply in voodoo, usually going about their delightful business with quite unpleasant-looking masks on their faces. They had a cool-sounding name, as well: Tonton Macoute.

Gaius Julius Caesar or Abraham Lincoln.

Caesar marched on Rome, Lincoln the top hat.

Maggie Thatcher - the great Iron Lady

Why - cause she was tough

    Augusto Pinochet or Benito Mussolini.
With great names like that, they were destined to dictate.

The thing about dictators is they are an easily identified figurehead of a hateful and murderous regimes.

I always thought that entities (empires, countries, companies etc) tend to be ignored as they don't have a obvious symbol or single person to blame for their transgressions.

Donald Trump (wanna be dictator). Why? His tweets. Whenever he opens mouth. Great comedy material. For Seth Meyers. Alec Baldwin. Stephen Colbert. Noah Trevor. And Saturday Night Live.

Donald Trump because he gets all the liberals, militant lefties and SJW's all hot under the collar. Build that wall! Build that wall!

    Definitely Rosa 'Nah' Parks.

There once was a young dictator called Parks,
Who's bite was much worse than her bark.
She sat on a bus, caused a great deal of fuss,
So the white men took flight like a lark.

    Josip Broz Tito.

Josip Broz Tito after surviving assassination attempts wrote to Stalin: "Stop sending people to kill me. We've already captured five of them, one of them with a bomb and another with a rifle ... If you don't stop sending killers, I'll send one to Moscow, and I won't have to send a second."

That would be my choice. I did a history project on him years ago in school. Interesting guy.

    What Hitler did right:

Autobahns (almost 4,000 kms completed before WW2!)
Blitzkrieg (not entirely his but gets credit for being in charge)
V2 Rocket (not his gig, but still he was in charge, same principles apply to space rockets today)
Restoring German dignity and strength before WW2 (yes, he did that despite what happened next)

    What Hitler did wrong:

    Everything else

A poll with one option, presumably?

I thought his paintings were okay, if he'd priced them at, say €75-€100, I'd have been tempted...

Idi Amin Dada of Uganda, played brilliantly by Forrest Whittaker in the film The Last King Of Scotland.

Always had a soft spot for Gadaffi. I believe he was royally f*cked over by the French, British and Americans. Even after paying billions in compensation to Lockerbie victims families and giving up his WMD.

A UN sanctioned no fly zone was illegally used to bomb his supporters.

His brutal killing without trial and the reaction to it by Hilary Clinton makes her look unfit to lead the worlds most powerful democracy.

    saddam hussein

he achieved so much despite his lowly birth
A truly heroic rise to power despite being exiled initially to egypt.

Used Iraqs oil wealth to bring Iraq onto a par with the 1st world
provided helath care and education for all iraqis
Did you know that in the 1980s Iraqs state education was ranked higher by the UN than the USA? And baghdad had a highly rated university.

He was very secular and a strong proponent of women's rights - he would admonish men who beat their wives.
Under him women had full access to education - actually the head of his chemical weapons development for a while was a woman.
STEM for women? how about that? ;)

Really built Iraq - pre sanctions(of course) and is a hero to many of us from the region as he demonstrated power arabs could have without the religious sh1te that is prevalent in the region.

    He had his downsides though
he didn't like when people tried to kill him it made him go on a rampage killing many
He got into bed with the usa and was led into attacking Iran which was ultimately his downfall.
For the sake of his people, he should have taken asylum in russia and ran off with his wealth and ended sanctions but that's soley a humanitarian view , they are other factors when he rightly stayed
he had a blind spot to those close to him - they behaved badly and in a way he didn't approve of but ultimately he didn't punish his family.

But what a guy and a hero to many despite the one sided crap you read in the media in Europe and the US.
