Worth repairing an old Canon Lens?

I'm only an occasional photographer, and picked up a second hand Canon USM 28-90 on Adverts a few years, for not very much money.

At the time I paired it with a 300D, and got the occasional "error-xx" on screen while using that lens and had to power cycle the camera to use it again. I recently switched to a 1300D, and although I don't get an error, the lens does appear to "freeze" for a period of time, before I can use it again.

Is it worth my while sending it off to a repair centre for the €95 assessment fee, or should I just ditch it and by a new one? I like the shots I get with it, and if it's worth repairing, I would

It might just need cleaning and lubrication - the old grease dries out and goes hard eventually. However this is not an expensive lens, and it might be better to put your money into a replacement. I would suggest you give Eoghan a call at F1.0 Camera Repairs for advice - he know a lot about Canon equipment. No affiliation, he has looked after a couple of items for me and I was happy with the result.
