I still think it was a peculiarly mean spirited decision from the writers of the show to give her that fate. Harry Stamper in Armageddon. When he pushes AJ back into the elevator and sacrifices himself by detonating the bomb. The whole scene with Harry telling AJ he always thought of him as a son, his final goodbye to his daughter and his crew, and then the flashbacks right before the bomb goes off. Even now I can't watch that scene without getting misty eyed.

Some of the dialogue in that scene with Unicron (Orson Wells in his last role) is very mature for what was a 80s kids film, not to mention graphically killing off most of the original characters within the first 30 minutes.

Transformers was never the same for me after that.

The episode where Optimus came back to life was pretty messed up for a kids show toom

in One Tree Hill yet. A big fan of how that was done and the aftermath handled very well.

Already mentioned but agree about Mufasa, Brendan Fraser's death in Scrubs and John Ritter's RL death in 8 Simple Rules (although wasn't a massive fan of the show).

Regarding GOT there's a lot of shocking deaths but

Ned's

is the one that kicks everything off and still resonates to this day with me.

Also thought while they weren't huge characters

Percy & Reed's

deaths in Grey's Anatomy were harrowing. Two brilliant episodes of TV those.

Bambi's death didn't have much of an impact on me as a kid, Mufasa's death definitely did but worst of all was Artax, the horse in The Neverending Story, just GET OUT OF THE FÚCKING MUD!

Even at the end with Limahl's song I remember thinking "no, that's the worst ending ever", you then see Atreyu and Artax galloping through the fields and all is well in the world again!

An utterly hilarious episode yet The Simpsons completely stopped taking the piss just for those few moments and it was genuinely heartbreaking. A beautifully done piece of TV.

Years later, when The Simpsons had become irredeemably sh1t, Mother Simpson died during another reunion - and Homer found her passed away on the couch during the night following an argument with her (he went down to her during the night to apologise). It was briefly handled well but then just became horrible. Really summed up for me how bad The Simpsons became.

Not because he was anything great really - but mainly because it was the first character I saw as a child actually die off. So some loss of innocence in the world of good always winning over evil was had there.

The first character that I saw die in actual movies was the kid who shoots himself in Dead Poets Society. So that being a first it also had an effect.
