Has the dual-band wifi and all the other stuff. Great price for a great unit. Have received a few '3 giggers' recently and they are very quick. Anyone with the old '1 gigger' could do a lot worse than treat themselves to an upgrade :)

CPU: Amlogic S912 Octa core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU up to 2GHz (DVFS)
GPU: 750MHz+ ARM Mali-820MP3 GPU processor
    RAM: 3GB DDR3
    ROM: 32GB EMMC Flash
    OS: Android 6.0 OS
    Ethernet: 100M/1000M
    WIFI: 2.4GHZ/5.8GHZ 802.11a/b/g/n /ac
    Bluetooth: BT4.1
    Video Codecs: VP9-10 Profile-2 up to 4Kx2K@60fps, H.265 HEVC MP-10@L5.1 up to 4Kx2K@60fps

Obviously you are potentially exposed to the 'Customs Cull' but you'd be unfortunate to get nabbed.

(Go on Vic, you'll need something to go with the keyboards anyway) :P

Good offer, same unit on Tomtop is $69.99
Wonder if you'd get the 10% off if you install the app?

Both are same price and same specs.

I will probably go with this one based on the fact that this is Android 7.1 as opposed to 6.0 on the op.

The one in the OP has instructions on how to upgrade to 7.1 in the product description.

Is this a plug and play type thing for a dummy like me ?
Will it turn my tv into a smart tv, is that it ?
    What else ?
Excuse the basic questions but I was thinking of a receiver type box to replace sky etc.

What do you mean a receiver type box?

More than likely this will not replace your sky box

    Bought the Gearbest one.
Hopefully it will be as reliable as my old Tronsmart one.

One of the best ways of replacing your sky box is to get iptv, you can get lots of stuff on that.

I got one a few months back and I'm not sure the WiFi is great, I'd make sure to use it with a wired connection. Other than that have had no issues with it. 4/5 star's

I currently have a "4K HTPC" with an RX550, Kodi DSPlayer and madVR. But it's so unreliable and frustrating. (Windows randomly reverts back to stereo output, black screen on HTPC wake due to HDMI handshake issues, Kodi crashes, Kodi black screen dropouts during playback, Linux AMD driver hell, etc etc).

So looking at this Android TV box...
    • What would the up-scaling quality be like. E.g. 480, 720 or 1080 upscaled to 4k. madVR is pretty much as good as it gets in this regard
    • I assume it has IR (or there's some way for a Harmony One to control it)
    • Do these boxes have a custom UI? Is there a stock Android TV UI? If it has a custom UI is it possible to flash and put stock Android TV on it?
    • What kind of power states does it have? Power off and sleep? Can you have something like Kodi running and put it to sleep. Next time you use it it's directly back in Kodi?
    • Does PrimeVideo Ireland work, and work with 5.1 audio?

    Whats your budget?

Nvidia Shield all the way if you can afford.

Ive purchased this bargain as a second box for another room which will be more than enough.

After spending a decent amount on the HTPC not sure i'm willing to spring for an NVIDIA SHIELD, unless it's exceptionally good?

    It is.

Do your homework. It wipes the floor with the others and some!

If you're also in your games then its a no-brainer.
