His naming of all the Olympic medals we won as John Tracey was about to win Silver in 1984 was one of the great pieces in any Sports Commentary. Not that he load to remember but was still elegant

Sad to hear he has passed away. A legend of growing up in Ireland in the 70's and 80's where a lot of us had only the two channels. Maradona and Treacy commentaries live in the memory but also know your sport and ask jimmy. There was no google in those days.

    RIP Jimmy.

Netherlands with 3 out of 3 penalties so far... and now it's 4 out of 3!...which would be a bit of an effort wouldn't it, 4 out of 3...make it 4 out of 4.

    RIP Jimmy.

Really sad news. Bobby 'The Brain' Hennan yesterday, Jimmy Magee today, two big voices from my childhood watching sport.

Always sad when someone that you grew up watching passes away, remember the old man used be a big fan of Know Your Sport and that rubbed off on me,its something RTE havent come close to since

RTE should have a whole night of programmes in tribute to Jimmy Magee

    RIP

They should get the Apres Match crew to do something for a couple of hours. A mixture of the serious and the humorous from Jimmy's career with a dig deep into the archives for footage.

    RIP Jimmy.

Had the privelege of meeting this great man a couple of years ago. So approachable and glad to chat sport for a few minutes. Left a lasting impression on me.

    RIP

A legend. Nowadays with every commentator trying to find a niche of a bit of controversy it shows that he definitely was different class. Just got on with it, no soundbites, no controversial opinions.

    RIP Jimmy.

and remember he commentated at a time when there was no co-commentator ..most of the time he did it all on his own

bit biased it must be said, but he'll be missed

    RIP Jimmy
