Photo spots & driving roads around Dublin?

    Bit of a strange one here. I was wondering if anyone knows some nice driving roads in and around Dublin and also any nice spots to get some snaps of the car.

    My memory isn't up to scratch on the specific locations but about 3 years ago I was cycling from Blessington, past what I believe is Glendalough and into Roundwood. The climb up towards the Glendalough area was tough but I couldn't believe how nice the roads were and they had such a lovely view. Possibe photo opportunity there and could be a nice drive?

    Similarly I enjoy cycling from Malahide, past Portmarnock onto the Coast Road? I probably wouldn't drive that because of how much chaos it is with bikes and coaches though.

    I'm awaiting delivery of a new car and was wondering if there's anywhere nice to drive to get used to the car, break it in and possibly get some nice photos along the way :)

    Up to the Sally Gap across the Dublin Mountains and Wickow. One of my favourite routes would be to go up to the Sally Gap passed the hell fire club, the whole way to the sally gap is an amazing drive. If you still want more, then you can turn right towards Blessington/N81. Some of the best roads in Ireland up around there!

    To get to the road you mention above, you need to go through Blessington (heading south) and on to Hollywood. At Hollywood there's a left turn to the Wicklow Gap. After you pass over the Wicklow Gap the road brings you to Glendalough.

    Lovely scenery up there and plenty of decent photo opportunities. The road is decent too.

    go industrial if you want your car to stand out, the more derelict the better

    Thanks for the responses guys, was expecting a few more. I'm sure people like to go for a drive and not just commute to work in them :)

    The road from Duleek to Trim is a lovely driving road but not great for photos. Up near Carlingford is spectacular as well with a view over Warrenpoint.

    Bit outside Dublin but sure if you like driving then sure what harm on a Sunday morning :)

    Nowhere near as long as the others mentioned, but I used to commute to work on the River Road. For somewhere inside the M50, it's a lovely road to drive and very rural aside from one bit in Ashtown.

    Anyone know if you can drive up to the base of Powerscourt waterfall? I see a few cars beside it on Google.

    You can, but I'm pretty sure you have to pay in.

    You do. It's approx 15-20 for a family ticket from memory - we went a few weeks ago for the obligatory summer bbq and climbing the waterfall.


    Regarding driving roads I find the backroads from enfield to claine to athboy to be pretty good for any sort of coupe.
    Pictorially not great but great experience.

    Lots of great photographic roads in wicklow, anywhere out glendalough, sally gap, roundwood etc.
    Also I find Donegal and derry to have some great scenic backgrounds. Gweedore is a great spot particularly to get a car in a photo.

    Round the pigeon house/south bull wall might be good for pictures. Not great for driving though.

    The Old Militiary Road up the Wicklow mountains is pretty spectacular. We went uo past the Hellfire and took a small lower road down with a number of lay-bys with spectacular backdrops
