Well, except that Twin Peaks: The Return was better than the entire Netflix slate of original programming combined.

    Different Strokes and all that.

I do think Netflix has something of a quality problem - for all the shows they've released, I really don't think any of them reaches a really unusually high standard. There's good shows in there for sure, and some incredibly popular ones no doubt. But when you look at what Amazon have with Transparent, that's a totally different quality level to anything Netflix has made (they've 'acquired' one or two big hitters like Better Call Saul, it should be stressed). Netflix has produced nothing that comes close to matching Mad Men, Twin Peaks, Fargo etc... in terms of quality.

This is triply true of film, incidentally.

If you're looking back at the short history of 'peak tv', Netflix as a platform is more important than Netflix as a content producer. They've changed the way we consume TV, but they haven't made an impact on TV as a medium in the way rivals and predecessors have.

I can't keep up with all the stuff arriving on Netflix lately. Trying to get through Atypical and the Confession Tapes and now American Vandal is there too. All this on top of Mr Mercedes and South Park is just going to prove my point, nobody needs Sky anymore.

Where you watching mr Mercedes and South Park? I can only find them on sky.

Watching "Stranger Things" at the moment.

If I said that it seemed to be a mashup of a number of Stephen King books with a bit of ET thrown in you might conclude that it's not very original.
However it does entertain, with an intriguing premise and fine ensemble acting from a mix of young and older cast (Winona Ryder gets to chew the scenery,in one scene almost literally).

    I would recommend.

I'm sure I saw it advertised on RTÉ the other day. Not sure if it's started yet.

Through nefarious means. The first 2 episodes are available for free on the network website.

It's not, it says so once you click on more info. It's a satirical look at the documentary style shows. Apparently

Ah ok that makes sense! I thought it was a bit pointless it wasn't funny at all for me.
I would recommend the confession tapes though which has been added recently to Netflix

Bojack Horseman is probably their masterpiece, obviously due to its format it won't get the credit it deserves but its up there with pretty much all the elite tv shows you have named bar possibly Twin Peaks which is on another level altogether (despite the mediocre second season). :P

Master of None and Stranger Things obviously had pretty special first seasons, so it will be interesting to see how they develop.

Film wise, I suppose Beasts Of No Nation, 13th, Divines Winter On Fire,I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore and Into The Inferno are promising signs from that side.

Masters Of None has had a second season too and it was great. Better than the first by some margin.

Master Of None already has had a second season which surpassed the first IMO.

Totally agree the second season was outstanding imo. The Thanksgiving episode in particular was amazingly good

Yea, Bojack Horseman doesn't get a lot of attention, because the marketing team keeps making it out to be this goofy comedy, when, really, it is suprirsingly emotional and devastating in parts.

Also there are one or two episodes each season that totally bend everything about the show - last year it was the practically-silent underwater episode, this season it was Time's Arrow.

Some may disagree but I find Grace and Frankie gets better and better each season improving on the last plus The Crown really impressed me as I'm not really a huge fan of those types of shows but along with Stranger Things it was one of my favourite TV shows last year, but yea Bojack is the show that really stands out among the rest.

HOC is getting substantially worse as it goes along and 13 reasons why was so-so at best.

The new season of Rick and Morty has probably been my favourite Netflix offering so far. It's been absolutely fantastic.

That's not made by Netflix though.

Not sure which conversation people are having here. Quality of what's available on Netflix or quality of the shows they're producing themselves.

    Strong Island

Yet another documentary of horrendous racism in America.

It's powerful stuff, and also shows how the death of a child/son/daughter can devastate a family afterwards.

Even more so when it's for a murder that a government system completely ignores.

I watched the trailer for this last night, yet another excellent looking offering to add to my ever expanding list.

Sorry, I thought that was a Netflix exclusive for some reason.
