I suppose what it comes down to for me is the intent behind what was said- and if we are to consider ourselves as enlightened people, the idea of running someone out of town for a difference of opinion that was in no way defamatory nor inciting hatred- that just sounds very primitive to me.

I'm not getting into the ins and outs of retrospective advice because it's been done to death- but I did not hear a man shaming women for decisions they make. I didn't hear a misogynist castigating women for the actions they take.
I heard a man; a father, a son, a husband- fumble and mumble is way around a delicate topic, where the intention was clearly motivated from a place of concern and the difficulties of parenting. I didn't hear someone who in any way of form wanted to shame women and burden them for the decisions they make.

They should use George's removal to give back more time to Moncrieff. There is a big shortage of decent broadcasters.

Only if Sean shows up to work in a dress.

This controversy has really brought the cockroachs out into the open. What a motley crew they are.
Super sanctimonious Fintan, ranting Una, crazy Mary C , even crazier Ruth, cynical Paul and a rogues gallery of the pious, malcontent and fake virtuous.
These are the now effectively, the arbiters of Irish opinion if NewsTalk's cowardly decision is anything to go by.

Look I've had enough of all this back and forth here, with nobody prepared to tackling the most serious issue with regard to this topic...

Who is presenting Global Village tonight? :pac:

You are some fella on the internet - if she says she is then she is. She has the right to be critical and yes the right to stand in - someone had to. No doubt you'd be having a job at anyone else who took that slot. Cool your jets.

She says she is a friend but her actions say otherwise.

She has taken no risks and acted in a totally self-interested fashion (unlike Pat Kenny) since this contrived controversy broke.

i offered. they said no thanks.

it was just going to be an hour of me making armpit farts. infinitely better than the normal.

Pity Joe Duffy is away (he's on his 9th week of holidays this year); he'd handle this debate with his usual calmness, knowledge, impartiality and professionalism.......

Could be Joe's chance to move the dial and join Newstalk? RTE could offload his outrageous salary fees package and Newstalk would get to tick the "working class accented presenter" box that's currently missing from their Bingo Buzzword HR Checklist.

I realise the subtlety of a lot of that will be lost on non-Liveline listeners or thread-readers, but who cares? Those of you who know, know; so to speak. :pac:

I hope in the interests of equality you emit farts equally from each armpit now, otherwise you'll be accused of favouring one over the other....

How about some of us tune in and up the listenership to, say, ten - they couldn't possibly justify her coming back to her slot with her current listenership of the three or so people she has . .

Anything from Philip Molloy tonight I wonder.. George got him his gig in Newstalk as well.

been a bit of a mad week for myself so ive missed the lahvline .

was this even a subject on it ?

surely THATS rtes standard to a "public outrage". if no ones calling joe on this it would seem to be just the journo set going off on one.

Surely her refusal to present the show has been overtaken by events. Hook has been taken off air and is, in my opinion, unlikely to return so what's her problem?

Well, he hasn't been fired yet, so she can hardly do the show, can she?

Well, Dil tweeted that she hopes that Newstalk's "full investigation" wil conclude within the next few days, so that she ccan return to broadcasting on 23rd Sept.
She didn't specify what she's going to do if Newstalk's investigation should not be to her liking.....

But to answer your question, I wouldn't miss her from the airwaves, because as soon as she comes on with the weekly moan, I turn over to RTE1.

Ciarian Cuddihy. Lets see how he gets on, could take the slot if he is half decent.

Fend off big money offers from multiple other broadcasters in the land, eager to take on an immigrant lesbian diversity box ticker?

For this reason alone I'm hoping against hope that they'll not sack George (looks inevitable though). Where the hell did they find her? Who got the bright idea that she should present a radio show. It's one of the worst things on Irish radio and that's quite an achievement.

It's a white heterosexual male... This cant end well. You have to be a member of a thousand minority groups to be able to present this show properly.

I'd say Dil is still upset that George made a fool of her the last time she appeared on High Noon.

She was on to talk about that gender neutral crap and how children shouldn't be labelled until they are old enough to do it themselves. She then went on to call her infant child "he". Old Georgie was having none of it!!

All this focus on Newstalk's lack of female presenters.

This needs to be refined again.

It is the lack of "right minded" female presenters.

I'd say >95% of posters on this thread are male...........

If all the male posters stopped posting, this thread will close down. It continues with no purpose and hopefully Newstalk will sort out the issue internally, well Dill might if many listen to her at all. Personally I would not miss her off the radio.

I am seeing some old hat rejects from RTE coming out of the wood work looking for an angle back into radio at the demise of GH. Personally that is a new low but to be expected of such rejects.

How do you know 95% of posters are male and if so why does it matter?

Exceeds quota. Balance affected. Try and keep up! :D

Here is a question right, suppose if it was Niall Boylan who said what Hook said, would anyone have noticed ?
