I am not an avid listener of Newstalk. I'm not an avid radio listener at all, actually. I have no idea what the schedules are, all I know is that I have 12 stations tuned and saved in my car and whenever I flick through them, I'll leave Newstalk on if it's George Hook. I'll actually nearly always leave Newstalk on regardless of the show, when I'm not in the mood to listen to music.

After today's actions, I'm removing Newstalk from that rotation. Absolutely disgusting treatment, I didn't think I'd get so angry but here I am.

    Common sense RIP.

"I am a woman" - what was that about?

    BRING HIM BACK

You know 'Uplift' the bunch that had the online poll for whether George should be fired or not. They closed down the pro George one when it got too much support. They are now demonstrating outside the NewsTalk office demanding 'equality'. Not of opinion obviously. Even the Quisling media have described them as a small crowd (probably 4 people) but 'angry' at the great injustice. I think they are feminists, I am not sure if they know themselves.

Possibly more wrong and offensive than what George Hook said, given the situation that she for today is replacing George while he's suspended.

Would love to see George get a weekend slot. I used to listen to him when he was on the Right Hook on the way home from work but only got a chance to hear him on High Noon when I was on holidays from work.

Heard the cow introducing herself "as a woman"
    Despicable excuse for a human

Is she saying her listeners are sexist? A dig at management not having women on air or a dig at George?

I don't particularly like George Hook, I don't listen to his show nor do I bother listening to Newstalk very often. The way this issue has grown legs over the week is ridiculous. His apology should have been the end of it and it's hard to see him coming back at this stage.

Lads, I would hold on bashing her.

Were I in trouble and one of my friends wanted to run to my public aid (potentially killing her broadcasting potential) I would stop her.
I would then also be quite happy (were I suspended) that it was her, and not the backstabbing lot, who got to fill in.

We don;t know the conversations potentially had between them. He might have told her to keep her head down

The old story of women not supporting other women is proved by listener figures for female presenters.
Why do over half the population not support their own gender, in this case radio. Check sports, politics.
Women not supporting their own as women could show gender neutrality or as I often observe a more judgemental approach to female broadcasters.
That is fine, no problem. God knows, they tried on Newstalk, with no sucess. Orla Barry anyone?
But why do men have to get in in the neck from feminists as if they are to blame.

I agree, she did the medical slot with him on Monday as normal and though both sounded more subdued and workmanlike that normal, I felt they had had a 'keep calm and carry on' conversation.

Excellent point made above about Dil W, that we was perfectly happy to do her show the day after the comments in question.

As for Hook, I have an increasing feeling he may take the Noirin O'Sullivan way out - 'I dont need to be dealing with this anymore, so Im off.' It would be a pity, but he already has remained two years longer with NT than he indicated he would some years ago. Perhaps his original instinct was right.

It appears their is going to be a push to replace Hook with a female host because of Newstalk gender imbalance.

Prob ashamed to admit to being female with the way the "feminists" are carrying on.

    I am female.

duploelabs what makes you think there are no females standing up for George?

Why would anyone be ashamed to be female because of feminism? And putting it in inverted commas is just weird.

Could it be because she doesn't believe that they are true feminists?

Me. I don't agree with what Hook said but I value plurality of opinion in media. There is less of it after today. I think the reaction to his comments was mob like and I hate how perpetually outraged want to limit speech to only what they feel is appropriate. It's effects are polarizing and they just mobilise those holding opposite views. That usually means more conservative people who are more likely to vote and the crowd who likes to Twitter but doesn't like to vote ends on the losing side in elections. The Donald is saying thank you. And the rest of us a paying for this nonsense.

You think Dil, Lon/ Mullally /rosemary mccabe and the perpetually offended 3rd wave Onesare doing good for feminism

Because I wouldnt want any man to think that all the women in Ireland carry on like Mary C , Dil and co do!

If a man whistles at me in the street , great. If he holds the door open for me great again, if he offers me his seat, thanks a million.
I dont need these women telling me this is wrong and that I should be opening the door myself or get offended if someone wolf whistles.

Deal with serious issues for women and not petty little things like above and mis interpeting things Hook says
