With them a year now, no issues. 4G Coverage the same as three.

I'm with iD a year now. No issues. Unbelievable coverage. Believe it or not better coverage than Three. I have very bad coverage/support with SIM free phones. I had a galaxy S4, Nexus 5 and a Nexus 6 all SIM free and I would constantly have no internet with Three. Phone would always roam. Put my SIM card in a phone purchased from Three and I got 4G for 10+ hours where I would usually wouldn't even get 3G on a SIM free phone. I was sceptical about moving to iD when I discovered they used Three infrastructure. No issues and I'm paying €21 a month 30GB of data 500 mins and 500 texts after i paid €10.50 for first 6 month.

Not a bad deal, although I'm a data hog so I don't think this would be enough for me.

ID Mobile are up for sale in Ireland. Dixons are exiting the Irish market. There will either be new owners or the operation will be shut down.

I always steered clear of ID Mobile because they have a bad reputation for customer service. Has this changed? I wouldn't be particularly worried about them being up for sale.

Can you quit before the 6 months is up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,177 ✭✭✭✭GBX

My father is on there plan but on occasion he has noticed the allowances change and had to call them to reset to his preference. Other than that he gets on fine with it.

Just chatted with idmobile. You can indeed quit at any time. It's 30 day rolling contract. Also data is 4G where available. And allows 6.3G EU roaming data. No bad. Tempted.

Any current user feedback for Dublin area?

How does this compare to the Virgin Mobile offer. The main drawback of Virgin at the moment is that inbound/outbound SMS for some banking and other automated SMS services is blocked.

I've been using ID again recently, meteor had no coverage where I work, and you had to pay to call voicemail. Crazy.

ID seem to have improved with the sms authentication. Google is fine, argos (my go to test if not working) works now. Getting ptsb and kbc texts. Mr binman. All seems fine.

I wasn't aware of this being an issue with ID Mobile. Just to confirm youre talking about ID Mobile and not Virgin?

Been with Virgin since February - only SMS service I've noticed being blocked is when entering competitions via text. Basically services that you might knowingly be willing to spend money on.

Argos, Payzone, BOI, Ryanair, AirBnB, TheAA, JustEat etc all working fine

Good to know, as I just signed up with them.

Yeah, I'd terrible trouble setting up my KBC account using iD mobile. There was one activation text which would not arrive.

For argos, you know how when you reserve something online, you can get a text? Never worked with iD. Seems to work now.

    Dublin user here, but travels.

EU roaming is spot on, loads of data and allowances as per regulation. Coverage is good in Dublin, only a few black spots in dips or similar areas, as per with Three. Doesn't feel as congested, I must say. Loads of data and the like, fraction of the price. Voicemail free. Customer Care is much better than at the start.

If SMS is not working they work through setting them up depending on priority. For example, banks are highest, radio stations last.

    Highly recommend.

You can quit but if you start a new month you will be billed for the full month even though you might port over to a new provider during that month. I was with them for their 6 months half price offer for 2 mobile accounts and when I ported from them on the 7th day of the 7th month they billed me for the full month with no credit for the remaining 24 days for both accounts. Their billing cycle runs from 1st of the month to the last day of the month. Ended up they kept approx. €45. Every other network provider gives you a refund of unused credit except idmobile. Even Carphonewarehouse who setup the accounts and organised my porting to and from idmobile were unable to organise me a refund. This was after they told me that I would get a refund of unused credit. So moral of the story port from them towards the last days of the 6th month on half price offer.
    Hope this helps.

We moved from id/eir to virgin.
With virgin 6 weeks and am moving elsewhere for Mobile.

The number of times I can't get a data signal in Dublin in mind-blowing.

Network from hell, run away fast.Have been stuck with these for 22 months on a contract.Often have no data in Dublin cc,calls going straight to voice mail when phone is showing signal.Still waiting on a call from their"technical department"that was promised 6 months ago. There is a reason they are looking to bail out of the market.

Thanks OP a great find. Switched from VM. Fantastic value in SIM only plans. Why anyone would sign a 24 month contract is beyond me. A very good spec phone can be purchased under 300€. I got the Moto G5 plus SIM free on Amazon in June.

Even the new S8 is available from Amazon for 600€ if you want a flagship phone. I went with 500mins, 250texts and 30g of data.

Did that issue never got sorted with Virgin!?

The only thing to be aware of is that ID is most likely going to be sold quite soon so plans could change.

    Its same in iD

Cheers OP. I switched to Meteor/EIR a few months back and not happy with them. This is a great alternative. Thank you

Is there any chance you didn't put the correct settings into your phone? It seems weird that all of those perfectly good handsets didn't work properly?
