The actor who will ultimately come off the worst from this is Chris Donoghue. He has shown his true colours. Imagine the atmosphere in what is, by all accounts, a small office?
At least Hook expresses opinions. The only time the cowardly Chris has expressed an original or controversial opinion is when he stabs a colleague in the back.

Funnily enough during the marriage equality referendum lotta folks on the right were telling Donoghue to keep his opinions to himself and he even got a rap on the knuckles from the BAI so.... No.

You started out with saying it's impossible for a man to be raped under Irish law then pointed out S.4 Rape which exactly the law used to convict said rape of a man.

Ah right, I see the confusion. I'll leave it there as we are derailing the thread slightly at this stage.

Someone should set up a separate thread for "man rape" discussion.

I said controversial. He showed his usual bravery by showboating how much more in tune then most he was with the standard media view on the issue.
Hardly heroic or cutting edge journalism.
More like sucking up to those who share the same view.

What did Michael Graham say about it?

Whatever you think about his comments on this issue, he has obviously made quite a few enemies in the 'media' by the looks of things.

I haven't seen this much flack in quite a while.

I wonder how much of the indignation the 'media' is feeling is genuine or simply jumping on the latest social media outrage.

And Chris O'Donoghue is right at the head of the queue. He has either been waiting in the grass for George for some time or he thinks the new title means he is some sort of authority, I can't figure out which it is

I think the lack of controversy must have inverted itself and become actual controversy, just going by the amount of hot air and derision his showboating generated on the Newstalk Breakfast thread and Twitter at the time.

It was certainly no less heroic than the stance you're projecting onto Hook. "Hitting the high notes without harping on about it... and crapping out when the pressure is on"

Or maybe he just thinks that what hook said was unacceptable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,545 ✭✭✭jooksavage

Yeah that's the thing. O'Donohoe has always maintained his credentials as a feminist. It wasnt like he was "soft on rape" and suddenly reversed himself to have a pop at Hook.

Out of interest, what other colleagues has he done this to?

Fair point and that's a maybe, but he has never struck me as someone who would let an opportunity to jump on a bandwagon pass him by.

This sums up Chris, the guy is a complete lightweight and doesn't understand anything he's spouting, he just knows it's a popular and useful bandwagon to hop on.

Wow he's a feminist. What a brave and original stance on Chris's part in this day and age. He deserves a medal

What did Michael Graham say about it?

Nothing, I'm sure he was warned not to.

I feel sorry for him. He has apologised and yet the witch hunt persists. People are treating him as bad as if he committed rape himself. He made a few awkward points about something that needs to be considered and this is what happens. It makes me very uncomfortable.

Hyperbole. He'd be getting jail if he committed rape.

You're making silly statements now Anna, how and when has he been treated like a rapist?

Good man Michael Graham. Very nicely done.

It's just a shame that we probably won't hear a single Irish contributor willing to do the same - and who could blame them.

I read Fintan O'Tool article. I agree with him about the lack of gender balance but Fitzpatrick quit and Sarah McInerney wasn't up to the job (yet). The station manager is female if I'm not mistaken?

Reading the rest of it you'd swear NT was the Irish equivalent of Fox Radio. Clearly none of these opinionated muppets actually listen to the stations output.

Dil from Global Village will be going bonkers now, to be been seen as associate with Fox Radio

Ah ya I am I'll admit that. I just don't like the idea of someone being bullied off the radio for expressing himself awkwardly and apologising.

I don't think he deserves the sack for this alone but if I'm honest I used to be a fan but he's turned more and more into just a ranting old man who loves the sound of his own voice.

There's obviously more going on too than meets the eye if 20 staff want rid of him, he's pushed it and pushed it until he's gone too far I suppose.

Wow all the news sites have it now. Staff demanding his removal and an investigation underway. Sounds like his goose is cooked.

Does this mean that Moncrieff gets his 30 minutes back?

    Too soon?

I'll be glad to see the racist old goat turfed off on his arse

Please provide the actual evidence, in full, to support the allegation(s) of racism and take into account what the term racism actually means

It's a prime slot. I'm sure some recently 'displaced' presenters would only be too happy to jump in if Hook gets the heave-ho

This is insane. There is nothing wrong with suggesting that people need to do what they can to avoid dangerous situations.

It is NOT saying that people deserve what they get but an acknowledgement that there are predators out there who are completely sick in the head, and look at regular people as targets/victims. It would be like saying "I can walk where I like" when advised to not walk down the dark alley way late at night in a dodgy part of town.

I'm 6'1" and 250lbs and there are areas of cities I will not walk through alone, at night, drunk etc. You know why? Because there are dangerous people out there and I need to protect myself and not make myself an easy target. If I do walk down there and get attacked does not make it my fault that it happened but I did not minimise my risk.

If it was a slot about any other physical attack (as opposed to rape) there would be no uproar.

Now I'm starting to feel really sorry for George. He sounded very shook on the radio today. What has being going on on his twitter timeline has been unbelievable and now this.

He has apologised, move on ffs.
