Same power as a Mk5 GTI. I'd say that would be a fun little drive, but over €30k for a Polo is crazy.

I remember thinking the same about a Golf when the MK5 GTI first came out... and it was around that kind of money at the time, 33-34k.

I wonder will they have another Blue GT, 150hp would be nifty enough without braking the bank. Can't remember what it cost though as the Polo was phased out when I was looking at it.

On an unrelated note, the 1.5 engine the A3 has, that's not the new Evo engine the UK has is it?

polo blue gt 3dr was €23,265

good spot with the audi - that the new uk engine 150bhp

the new polo trims in Ireland will be trendline comfortline and GTi

No highline - No Uk details yet

Looking at the price list the Polo GTi is DSG as standard which to be fair would bump up the price a bit.

I believe it's standard in the UK for insurance reasons among others. Insurance companies insist on it or at least consider it a big factor when applying an insurance rating on a car. Whereas here I don't think it makes much if any difference.

It's the marketing / product guys in VW Ireland that decide on the specs for this market. It's not like they are being particularly tight when spec'ing it out. E.g. they put 19's on the R here whereas its still those 18" Cadiz in the UK. I think they put spec on the car that gives it most "showroom appeal" as possible within a set budget. Big wheels and other shiny add ons have showroom appeal. Stuff like alarms, dynamic chassis, etc are not so visible unless you're really in the know and many buyers wouldn't care much for them.

It's a false economy imho. A good alarm is more important than an extra inch in wheel size imho.

I'd imagine most of the competition offer Thatcham approved alarms for Golf GTI level vehicles.

Yeah I agree, the alarm should certainly be standard... but as I said, its some suit in the marketing/product department in VW Ireland that makes those decisions. The larger shiny wheels are more likely to draw the punters into the showroom.

On car wow review of the new polo he says that it is the same size as the mark 4 golf.
It looks like a very complete car and the mark 8 golf will probably move up slightly size wise too. I wonder how much more up in price they will push the golf then?
I don't like the gti wheels however, very like the current golf gti wheels.

They're exactly the same, an inch smaller. They're not good at all...

33k is big money all the same for a Polo.

Looks nice though. I wonder how much the new Fiesta ST will cost when it hits the showrooms next year.

Whatever it costs, it'll still be a Fiesta!

That's true but I paid 10k less than the new Polo for my new ST last year. I don't think the Polo is 10k better but i can't speak for the new car.

You could say that about any of these cars tbh. A 50k R is "still just a Golf" to many people who would be incredulous that a Golf could cost that much...

I was really interested in getting the Polo GTI next year but to be honest looking at the price and standard spec i'm not sure anymore. Maybe if they do the 6 speed manual for 30-31k but even then once you get a decent set of alloys on it and a few choice options you'd be at 33-34k.

Don't see any mention of the LED headlights?

When you factor in depreciation etc. + performance the Golf GTI looks like a better buy.

Yeah I noticed that too. No LED / xenons - not even on the options list? WTF. Surely a must have on any performance hatch imo. They just don't look right without them.

It may still be a Fiesta, however the ST version is a very highly regarded and much loved car with better to come next year.

Assuming they are an option adding them and nice alloys etc and your close on Leon Cupra money!

My thinking exactly, though hopefully they'll offer a manual for a few grand less. Personally I find the drip feeding of information to dealers / by dealers pretty amateurish and makes buying a car pretty frustrating. Clued in members of the public seem to know more than the dealer when it comes to spec etc.

I'd say they are not going to anticipate selling too many Polo GTi models here, it won't be a big seller like the Golf Gti anyway. And led headlights are still a rare novelty in the Polo class segment, Mazda seem to be the only one offering them on top spec Mazda2 models.

Xenons were common on the Polo GTI of the early '00's. Probably not standard but definitely were an option.

Just thought it was strange to see them missing off the product guide, it's quite comprehensive other than that. They made a big deal of them being offered for the first time on the Polo at the launch in June.

If you were spec'ing a new Polo GTI, just do a bit of digging and find the option code for the led lights. VW are usually OK about spec'ing options not officially on their guide.

Xenons are old technology now and any new cars launched these days won't come with them even on the options list. LED headlights are cheaper to produce than Xenons but still a rare and expensive choice on cars in the Polo segment. They are only starting to become standard on some premium brand models now.

Will take a number of years to filter down to the supermini segment. On the plus side the new Polo has electric windows all round now even on the base Trendline model which is progress itself. :pac:

CLI came on the other day. Threw the diagnostic on it, and it says my rain sensor is not working. I reset the DTCs and the code stayed off... until it rained again.

Anybody else had this replaced, or done it themselves?

I'm sort of glad that it wasn't something more serious.

The CLI? The DTCs? Assuming you're in the right place you'll have to translate that for us...
