I believe Becker was ill recently and the band toured without him, so there is hope yet that the gig will still go ahead- but it won't be the same at all.

That's about it, That James Brown Biopic on Channel 4 is tucked away at an unGodly hour but it does have decent reviews.
You might have spotted a preview of the Mercury Music Prize up there. In my opinion, that is the dullest most pompous awards show in the world. I think I know how they could liven it up. They could get Reeves and Mortimer to open up this year's show with their version of Hawkwind's Silver Machine, there ain't no Party like the 1995 Smash Hits Poll Winner's Party.

And as has been said before, most of the acts on the shortlist are relatively unknown - and stay that way even if they do win.

Ed Sheeran is by far the biggest name on this year's shortlist, with Stormzy a distant second. Apparently, Stormzy's good friends with Jeremy Corbyn... :D

    Corbyn-presented-the-Best-Solo-Artist-award-to-Stormzy-850572.jpg

Of the others, I doubt many will know that The xx have won this award before, in 2010. And I doubt many will know that Loyle Carner is signed to AMF Records - whose logo looks a lot like the one the BBC used for much of the 1990s. :D

    2ugo0nc.jpg2m4xeuc.jpg

Perhaps it's for the better that KT Tunstall lost out to Antony and the Johnsons in 2005. Had she not done so, we may never have had this wonderful Next advert... :D:);)

    Ah, those were the days.

I remember when The KLF went on The Late Late Show to discuss their stunt where they burnt One Million Pounds with Gay Byrne. Also features tax exile Joe Elliott from Def Leppard who has a more traditional Yorkshire opinion of burning good money for no good reason.

You wouldn't get this on The Late Late Show anymore

Hi, Marc Bolan died 40 years ago on Saturday and BBC Four decided this weekend would be a good time to show a new Doc about him ... and Sky Arts thought exactly the same thing! They don't clash so if you have both channels you can enjoy them both and compare and contrast. All that Bolan material doesn't leave time for much else, but here's what there is ....

Maybe the song is English but the video is definitely American "let's just film Tina Turner walking down the street " boredom of the early eighties, until the Brits taught them how to do it.

Don't know if you can get BBC 6Music in Ireland (let alone the player) but it's worth listening back to the weekly John Peel documentaries - highlights from his shows from each decade.

    It's the 90's this Sunday at 1pm :)

Nice one, yeah we can stream the radio online OK, inculding the radio part of the Iplayer. I can also get all the BBC Radio Stations on Virgin Media, which is nice.

Echo and The Bunnymen could have come straight from the Enchantment Under The Sea Dance in Back To The Future.

This is a cover of a Bananarama song, cowritten by them with the Singer of The Bluebells (who was going out with one of them at the time)

It later got to Number 1, making it the only ever UK Bananarama Number 1. Sort of.
