Why do the Irish give Pat Kenny such a hard time?

Yes, he does not do light entertainment very well. But aside from that,
he makes an excellent interviewer who is concise and insightful.

This OP has so many lies in so little words.

    He is just bland.

Because he has all the personality of an ashtray?

Does he get such a hard time???

Does some other race or species of sentient beings not give him a hard time???

Would he not get a hard time in some other country???

Is there much criticism of him as an interviewer?

He seems to have a spectacular lack of self awareness of his own capabilities ... His Late Late Toy Shows were torture... could he not have teamed up with an RTE2 presenter who had more of a natural rapport with kids, just even for that one night???

Is he not open to feedback to that effect??

I think if a BBC Newsnight presenter tried their luck at light entertainment and crashed and burned they'd get a hammering too?

He goes to bat for the establishment time and again. No fairness in his interviewing style completely one sided bias to suit an agenda. Take the IW affair as an example but that's just one issue where he can't help himself but take a side. He's an interviewer and is meant to be impartial.

Ireland's best current affairs broadcaster. Also a gent by all accounts.

I actually thought he was alright. He had his faults but nothing worse than some of the other clowns clinging on to the RTE bandwagon.

He is overpaid, entitled, and bland. Apart from that he is sound.

All journalists and presenters should be keenly aware of their own strengths and weaknesses. They should hone their career based on their strengths. they should not burden the reader or viewer with their weakness in any area. Simply stay away from it.
PK is competent in politics. The exception being that infamous Presidential debate tweet. Very poor to use an uncolloborated source. Basic journalism overtaken by eagerness.
    Good on tech.
Fairly good on radio, not so good on TV. Should never have gone near the LLS, but was driven to do so, by his ego.

Don't think he gets a hard time. The land court case, did him no favours.

He's a creep, just oozes nasty over entitlement which he does not deserve or have any right to. Pure epitome of Kent Brockman type media person.

In fairness Gay Byrne was a hard act to follow.

Totally agree, but PK was always anxious to prove himself as competent. GB didn't always get it right, most notably the Annie Murphy interview.
But his interview of P Flynn was the best. Instead of lunging in, he sat back and left Flynn unravel before our eyes.

He reminded me of that robot from Lost In Space when he was on the late late.

I don't think "The Irish" (what nationality are you OP?) have given him a hard time since he stopped presenting the Late Late, and while I really dislike abuse towards people, criticism of him as that show's presenter was deserved as he was extremely unsuited to it. He gives off self important vibes too and, as said, he's not always very impartial (and I'm someone who would usually agree with the views he espouses).

He is still a very good current affairs presenter though I think.

Anytime I tune in to him he's on top of his game.

Wasn't there a good guy v bad guy thing with him and Gay Byrne where he was portrayed as the bad one,or am I mistaken in my recollection

I like him on the radio.
On television he is a disaster.

RTE often had a strong tendency to try and stretch a person from radio to TV. They tried in many times with Gerry Ryan. It never worked.
