Most flyaways with mavics are pilot error- you need give them time to lock onto a good satelite signal before you take off or they wont know where to return to.

I dont think a mavic will suit your requirments of getting up very quick(takes a few minutes), being able to throw it around and not care where it crash lands.

The gimbol is quite delicate compared to other drones like the spark, phantoms, parrot or bebop, they take time to setup and packaway and they are heavy enough you wouldnt want to be flippant about the possibility of crashing into property or people.

Well in fairness, it'd be rare that they'd actually collide with anything, but it has happened. Obviously i do my best to take good care of them but at the end of the day when you're using them under time pressure and such you have to be swift with them and unfortunately a hard landing or a tip against a wall will happen now and again.

In fairness to the bebop, it is pretty tough.

Is there any drone you (or anyone) could recommend? I love the bebop, it's just the camera quality is poor, especially in comparison to the pic of the GOFFS sign that was posted a few posts back. That pic is like a 4k TV and my bebop is an old 1980s yoke with the antenna on top. Worlds apart.

Are you familiar with drones or DJI stuff etc?

..it's easy for them to take a battering..

.. watching it crash land and break, or fly away ..- at least with my €300 Bebop i can shrug my shoulders and move on with my life).

It takes me a few minutes to assemble, check everything and power up- and in winter there is an extra imu warmup step.

If I was using it for business - I'm starting the process to get myself certified and do it right - and for choice of a drone - the Mavic is great and super portable so I use it mostly - but for professional work where image quality is really important - I find the Phantom 4 has a slightly sharper picture than the Mavic - so Id go for for that or better a Phantom 4 Pro. More cumbersome and Expensive - but if it was for paid work then maybe worth it.
But I would consider it lucky for any DJI drone (other than the robust spark) to survive any crash well - its just not the way you fly them.

Saw that. And apparently they are backwards compatible so you can fit the new props to the old mavic and get the benefits.

Some of the benefit.. the speed controllers are the main reason for noise reduction. I suppose we'll have to wait and see in reviews.

Have a look at the Xiaomi Mi Drone 4K. There's a thread on boards in the models and bargain threads. For some reason I can't post links from the boards app. There's some footage I uploaded of it too. It's 385euro at the moment

Just saw on gizchina that this discount code offers another $80 of the already discounted spark flymore combo
I went through to checkout and with the spark currently being $567 on tomtop already, with this discount included it brings it o under €500.

That's incredibly cheap for the flymore combo.i paid €610 2 weeks ago.

    Discount code CSTRM0070

Very difficult to crash DJI drones in my opinion since everything is so automated. Has GPS lock, return to home, and more expensive models have crash avoidance. As long as you are being reasonable with the controls and have a home point recorded before you take off a crash is very unlikely. More likely to crash low-end quadcopters without such automation.

Has anyone gotten Dji Care Refresh? Or has anyone heard good or bad things about it?

Am I right in thinking that you can only get it for 12 months and after that you cant renew it?

The gizchina link is to the tomtop site which it's not the flymore combo. It's the drone and controller without the other items included in the flymore combo.

took my mavic up tbe wicklow mountains yesterday afternoon, and it really displayed its range capabilities. 20,000ft flight distance.

never even came close to maxing its range limit, even at that distance.

my only gripe is the screen visibility with sun glare. it really is a pain in tbe butt.

Any reason not to buy the Mavic with US plug for $909 with so many 5% vouchers knocking around rather than the EU version for $899 per the OP?

Since Rick is kindly sharing, I'll share too

THis is a video taken at Torc waterfall in Killarney with the Mavic.

It's not as smooth as I'd like, and I forgot to focus for the first shot, but not too bad an effort for an early attempt.

I think it's fantastic. Only thing missing is an epic soundtrack.

I got an email this morning with a UPS tracking number. It is the first tracking information I have received.

Tracking number just shows that a label has been created. No other information.

Does this mean that it is in NL ?

No that just means that UPS have received the information about your package. For most of us it was at least 5 days after that before the package actually arrived in the Netherlands, and then it takes another 3/4 before it gets to Ireland.

I ordered the Mavic Pro and it arrived as expected with pre-paid customs.

I also ordered 2 extra batteries separately from tomtop and see that after the initial carrier it has arrived with An Post, and the current status of the package is "ITEM SENT TO CUSTOMS". Looking at tomtop website it seems the pre-paid customs on the Mavic is the exception to the rule. If I do have to pay customs, i'm wondering how they'll contact me.

I've ordered another Mavic and this time paid for expedited delivery....but it looks like it's going to take longer to arrive than the first one did...which is disappointing!

I ordered the mavic with the hard case. Got an email this morning saying they do not deliver and the order will be cancelled. Contacted them saying I already received a spark without any issue. My order is currently on hold. Funny thing is I ordered a spare battery which is dispatched, no point without the bloody drone to use it with........

For anyone who got extra batteries, have you been tracking the package through a certain site? I've tried different tracker sites but none are showing up the tracking code as legit.

I hope the weather improves a bit, haven't gotten much use from the spark yet :(

My Mavic went a bit mental yesterday.

First the dji app wouldn't let me take off until I linked a number to the drone which had to be a mainland China number, which would then be text to be provided with a code.

Seems this has happened others after entering the simulator in the app (which I did) got resolved by clearing data/wiping cache and logging in again.

Secondly the drone itself was giving me warnings that the forward and rear sensor visualising systems needed to be calibrated, hence me having to download dji assist to the laptop and then point the drone at the laptop screen for a few minutes, then point the drones belly (for the downward facing cameras) and rinse and repeat.

All in all it was straightforward enough, but still was a pretty random bug. I last had it up in the air on Saturday with no problems and a pretty simple insignificant flight, so unsure w hy things needed to be recalibrated.

    But anyways. All's good again.

    I thought Tomtop covers customs???

What's your opinion on this 'Suckit'? Do Tomtop show evidence that they've paid the duty anywhere?

I had the same when ordering a battery from banggood. Its a really annoying slow process.

It arrives in Ireland, says sent to customs for 3 days. Then you'll get a letter in the post asking you for the PayPal receipt or invoice from the seller.
You then have to send an email to the customs officer with the reference and evidence. Three days later the postman will arrive, asking for money.

There's a 10 euro service charge, plus any VAT. There is also import duty once it goes over a certain value(150e, I think)

So on a 70euro battery, while trying to save, I had to fork out nearly 30 quid in charges.

    Good luck..
