Great idea, I have one bought and am a beginner to DSLR so learning every day, But youtube has taught me a lot in the past few days.

Im very happy with my results sofar.

I posted this in the bargain alerts thread, but its worth repeating...

Anyone that has got this camera now or will do soon or any dslr and is a photography beginner should follow this guy on youtube.

Cheers for the links, in the market for a bag and memory card for this too. I'm not going to be recording much video, is it still worth opting for this spec of card over something like this Class 10 U3 one?

With the better / faster cards your buffer empties out quicker so you can take more shots in burst mode and/or take the next burst sooner.

Got the bag and card.

Card is fine haven't done much but Mech has answered and I agree on the fast card point.

The bag is functional and cheap, looks a bit cheap too but will do for now.

I'm no expert, but this might be a possible cheap flash add-on which I'm guessing is better than the built-in one but probably not exactly a professional one!

The only problem I see with that flash for a beginner is that it is completely manual, more expensive flashes and the in built flash on the camera will automatically adjust the flash power, you can of course turn off the auto function and use it manually if you wish. If you want to learn/experiment with manual flash then its a bargain.

My brother was looking for a camera for a holiday. He ended up getting the D5300 with the twin kit lenses. I actually purchased it from my local camera store for him. I must say I was impressed with what you get for the money and that body is just so compact. It does feel quite as as solid as I would like but at the price what can you expect. A great entry level body. I am almost tempted to grab one myself with a 35mm prime.
