The normal site was OK but the touch site was treating the symbol for stereo as strikethrough.

    Fixed now.

It looks like they mostly relegated Reading/Leeds coverage to the Red Button this year, which is a shame.

Muse are on BBC4 tonight at 10.30pm, while on the Red Button they have

    • Sunday 7pm – midnight: Highlights and live sets from HAIM, Liam Gallagher, Wiley, Halsey, Blossoms, The Sherlocks, Ray BLK, Vant and more

From Tuesday 29th August at 8.30pm, watch Reading Festival 2017: The Best Bits on Red Button and iPlayer, for highlights from across the festival weekend.

Good to be back! Thanks to everyone who contributed listings over the last few days. The usual listings etc will resume from this week.

Hello, thanks again to everyone who contributed listings last weekend. Thursday sees the final outing of John Peel and Kid Jensen on TOTP before Kid went off to Commercial Radio.
A few years later he teamed up with Kevin Sharkey from RTE's Megamix (the future Donegal Priest from Father Ted) to front ITV's 'The Roxy', which was meant to blow TOTP out of the water, but died on it's arse within a year. The first Number One ever on that show was by Whitney Houston, and she appears in a new Doc on BBC2 on Saturday.

Elsewhere RTE does it's usual token one night of the Electric Picnic, Jools Holland does a Prom for Stax Records, and Sky Arts begins a new 10 part Rock and Roll series on Friday Night. Episode 1 is entitled 'Death', no doubt scheduled deliberately as a spoiler for the return of The Late Late Show ...

"It's amazing", says a chuffed Kevin Sharkey reflecting the general opinion at Tyne Tees. "And they've had 21 years to become established. We've only had nine weeks. If I was working on Top of the Pops, I would genuinely be worried."

As I said back in February 2015, The Roxy was badly hurt by not having a regular networked Tuesday evening slot, with some ITV stations showing it directly opposite EastEnders.

It probably didn't help either that it wasn't produced by one of the "big five" stations - Thames, LWT, Central, Granada and Yorkshire - who at the time dominated the ITV schedules, especially in primetime (Thames making The Bill and This Week, Granada making Corrie and World in Action, etc).

Eventually, the ITV Network Centre was set up to give the smaller ITV stations and independent producers a better chance of getting their programmes onto the schedules and in regular networked slots. By then, however, Tyne Tees had been taken over by Yorkshire, and in terms of music programmes ITV were largely concentrating on The Chart Show, which of course they imported from Channel 4.

Only in 1998 did they come up with another proper rival to TOTP, in the form of CD:UK. Although this aired on Saturday mornings and thus was aimed mainly at the kids, it certainly had enough in common with Pops for it to be considered a rival - including a chart countdown (albeit the midweek chart rather than the official chart).

It was arguably more successful than The Roxy - yet doesn't seem to be remembered with the same kind of affection. Probably because it totally lost the plot in its last few years on air...

That Bananarama song was a bit deep, there were a lot more angry political pop songs in 1984 than I remembered.

Yes, given he'd led the charge on the banning of Relax on the BBC.

Patrick Allen of course re recorded his narration of the civil defence public information films "Protect And Survive" for the voice of doom.

They couldn't use the original because it was Crown copyright - and, technically, classified!
