It's standard enough when they have no update for you but don't want to risk an irate customer over the phone especially when it's another salesperson's customer.

Factor in holiday season as well.

Got a call just now, the price on the website was a mistake. Bit strange, but worth a shot :)

So the Merc & Audi blows the others away in a drag race, much different story when you put corners into the equation on a race track. Sorry no Golf or Honda in this test below.

I see there's a listing for a new €56,650 R up on Carzone in Galway and it doesn't have keyless or Pretorias!!!

Yup I was in there last week and he mentioned it was coming in. They sold one for similar money back in May. He shifts a fair few R's! They're gone so expensive now though compared to just 2 years ago when I got mine. I dread to think what an upgrade would cost me.

What are the chances of someone buying something as niche as that off the forecourt? Is it a demo car? At 56k I'd definitely want some Pretorias and keyless!

Every chance. He sold a similar one in May over the phone. Fella came down from Dublin to drive it away.
    It's not a demo. It's a stock car.
They do take a certain risk when spec'ing them out as a lot of buyers in that segment would be fussy on spec. I too would prefer keyless and definitely the prets.

Is that the same place that is trying to charge €48k for a purple GTI? Best of luck to them.

Yep. But that's the RRP on the car. They made a mistake on that colour for sure but what do they do? Sell it at a loss? That's not going to happen. I expect it could end up getting reg'd as a demo.

It's an awful colour I have to say!

They'll most likely have to.... Whatever way they end up doing it.

    Thing looks horrid. :o

Surely joe this is a good thing for us as the second hand price will reflect accordingly ?

    We wish!!!
I know that 151/152 R's are being traded for low 30's. So to get into that 56k R (granted it has all the pricey options ticked), you are looking at kidney removal.

Yes maybe against a new R but not against anything else !

    i paid 45k in 2015 .

Ya the prices have really sneaked up since then. Standard R 5 door DSG is creeping very close to 50k.

I had my own car in for its 2nd service today and I got the keys of that 56k R for a quick poke around. I must say that the new Pro-Nav and those digital dials are really lovely in the metal. The Pro-Nav is so slick and shiny. And massive! I liked the new look of the leather seats too. There's a kinda perforated speckled-white finish on them.

Looks great but I do wish VW would put the steering wheel volume control on the Right side of the wheel the same as Audi.

Having the vol.control on the left side means you can't use your right hand to adjust the volume and and both wheel volume control and main volume control are only accessible with the left hand, thus reducing versatility.

Audi put the wheel vol. on the Right side of the steering wheel giving you the choice of adjusting the volume with either hand which imo makes a lot more sense. Steering wheel controls are all about convenience at the end of the day.
This one feature drove me nuts when I was driving a VW Jetta a few years ago.

I wouldnt necessarily agree with you there, steering wheel controls aren't there to give you the option of completing a function with either hand, they're there to allow you complete a function without removing your hand from the wheel

Fair enough but given that the vol. button is possibly the most used one on the steering wheel, I believe it would be better to have the option of using either hand, rather than left hand only, as the VW vol. button position dictates. Most people being right-handed, I feel the right side of the steering-wheel would be the most convenient position to enable use without taking the right hand off the wheel. At least that's what I felt when I had a VW, having both vol. controls so close together on the same side of the wheel was slightly restrictive.

Still a very first world problem, I admit.

I'm so OCD that I only ever use the volume control on the steering wheel. I never use the one on the radio because doing that means the power icon on that button is turned sideways, not the correct way up!!! Another reason why the new Pro nav screen interested me today as it has no physical buttons lol.

    ....and I thought I was fussy,lol! :)

I remember turning the volume to negative the volume I wanted so when I turned it up to the 12 position it would be where I wanted it....

I'm sure the volume on that side in inherited from the left hand drive market, where it makes more sense.

Yeah definitely. There's a few things in the cabin that they didn't bother adapting for RHD. Main one I think is the DSG lever - flicking it to manual mode means you push the lever away from you towards the passenger. It surely would feel more intuitive if it came towards the driver for "manual" changes. And then the lever itself obscures the "mode" button.

Yeah a lot of cars are like that. Was driving an A6 recently and the start/stop button is on the wrong side. This thread has brought out a lot of real first world problems over the last year or so.

I do this also! It's not as uncommon as you'd think either I know a few people who do it! Wife thinks it's hilarious to change it when I'm not looking. Drives me potty

Same here, has to be pointing at 12.
There are little black vinyl stickers you can get to hide the symbol on the button, same as the button on the opposite side.

Hi my name is Dar, and I am also a member of the 12 o'clock power button club.

    :pac:

Just so you guys know, there is a website that sells made to size stickers that go over the power button, to remove it from your gaze forever.... :P
