Miriam, of The Phoenix Way, has the makings of a right piece of work. Seemingly helpful, pleasant, community minded. It is characters like these who often turn out to be the most dangerous. As other posters have said this storyline has vast potential.

The sneaky way she dealt with Pete in the last episode was so manipulative. Giving bad news with a smile and sugar coat it.

I agree Wanderer. No priest goes around evangelising today or he'd get a lot of grief. It's not the 1950s.

However having lived in Dublin for 10 years and then back to the country i find there's a big difference in Mass attendance for those under 50 in urban and rural areas. In Dublin none only one or two friends under 50 went to mass. My home is as rural as it gets and about 70% go to mass between 30 and 50 years at a rough guess. The reasons.. One the priest has a 15-20 minute mass! Two it's social, we all chat for about half an hour after and have a laugh. Another reason is we still have a belief i suppose, just generation after genertion from penal times. Most of those who are in couples bring their children. They might not agree with a lot of Catholic dogma but they kinda bring kids along as they feel it's some kind of moral compass they are passing on. So yes i've found a huge difference between urban and rural.

But agreed no one goes on like Fr. Bertie to Decco. It's Decco's own personal business.

The church are recruiting for members on one side, the cult on the other.. Is this the ultimate battle between good and evil taking place in Fair City :D But who is good and who is evil says you!

Fair city spent €63,875 on wardrobe last year(Jane's little black skirt ad up) and €8,085 on hair and make-up.

I would say freshpopcorn Hayley's outfit was surely the most expensive. When i see her i still think i'm watching tv on a black and white set:P

And of course Niamh's maroon coloured coat is a luxury clothing item.

If done right, it has massive potential. They have already done very well do far, effectively introducing Miriam as a pleasant character who may or may not be a love interest for Eoghan. Slowly though she has been picking up a few recruits for her strange group. Stroke of genius that Phoenix Way is the first in Ireland, it stops characters speaking to past members etc..Its certainly a breath of fresh air from your usual affairs and warring neighbours.

They just have to do it right, that's the challenge!

Just in relation to my last post Wanderer. You'd think the various church scandals etc would have an effect on these very rural parishes. But post all the abuse scandals the Tuam babies last year it had no effect on church attendance at home which is kinda bizarre.

The parish priest is liked, no one felt like blaming him and things carried on as per usual.. Strange.

At least Trigger had the guts to tell the priest how hypocritical the Catholic church is anyway!

What's an Armenian. Somebody from Armagh?

Nope. Someone from Armagh is an Armani.

It's the bally ballyness of it that makes it all seem so bally bally.

After what he did to Carol when she was young

"Armagh" is Norn Iron for "Our mother".

Yes Wanderer. The good idea is half way there, implementation the critical other half! Do we trust those 30/40 story writers?!

After the mess they made of dragging the Katy story out waaayyy too long I don't hold much hope. Its a tricky one as a cult story has to be played out over the long run to be any way effective so if its long but well scripted and acted then that's fine.
It all remains to be seen.

I remember Stephen. He was weird as a teenager.

It was the cult's fault that he was weird

Kevin needs to get himself a decent American/Irish accent. His isn't even the woeful oirish accent!

He makes Tom Cruise's accent in Far & Away Oscar-worthy.

Id like to see a storyline where he finally bonds with his father hughie because he is quite a jumped up chip on the shoulder little shít at the moment - something like hughie is about to take the cash takings to the bank and is set upon and mugged but stabbed - then Kevin finds him and calls for ambulance but stops the bleeding and keeps him alive (sorry if this sounds like a corrie chesney soundalike but all soaps seem to be copying other soaps storylines these days) and so he is stopping the bleed , saving hughie until the ambulance get there bet then they end up actually liking eachother and kevin 'forgiving' him in a way for being a no good drunk father to him

Did I miss an episode or eight? Is Emmet now business partners with Miriam? They're making mutual decisions. Lord this show beats 'em all.

Miriam is manipulating Emmett by letting him think he has some control when he actually has none. I wasn't buying the whole cult concept at first, but she really is a sneaky one.

Ray, like Decco, is another person who isn't really religious

To the best of my knowledge Wayne's blue puffy coat cost ovee €600 in Brown Thomas!

Ray is communist in sympathy, he often mentions this and his hero is James Connolly. He also often mentioned his atheism. Pete also is an atheist he got very annoyed with Fr. Bertie interfering (even though at Dolly's request) when she had cancer.

Yes, a very expensive blue lagging jacket that he wore in the 15C warmth of a mild irish winter:D

At one time a few years back, Dolores didn't want a baby to be baptised, but she changed obviously

Having Niamh's purple coat myself, my mam bought it in m and s for 99 euro. It is a pain to keep clean.
