Removing gas fire to return to open fire

    We moved in to our brand new house 10 yrs ago and it had an open fire. We never used it but later had a gas fire installed.

    Gas is expensive and heat isn't great from it. We'd like to have this removed and go back to an open fire.

    I'm clueless so can anyone advise what I'd need to do or who I'd get to do this? Gas engineer to disconnect gas fire? Then What?

    Go to the RGII.ie website and look for Gas Registered Installers in your area and get prices to have the gas fire disconnected, removed and a cert for the work.

    Yes. I can sort that part. Do I need to do anything else then? Chimney checked or just "fire" ahead?

    It would be a good idea to have it checked and cleaned (if needed) before lighting any fires.
    But make sure that the gas supply pipe has been fully removed from the fire place opening and not just sealed up within the opening.
