    Bored in work and thinking about this. When you see an acronym written down do you say the acronym or the words in your head when reading?

    For example when I see OP on here I always think/read/say in my head Original Poster rather than OP. So am I alone and have I wasted half my life thinking these words? :P

    Acronyms for me. They are as much a part of speech and thought process as they are the written form. I'd never think "North Atlantic Treaty Organisation"

    that's actually called an "initialism" but hey
    acronyms are pronounced in one like NASA, we don't say N.A.S.A if we did it would be an initialism

    Try saying Lysergic acid diethylamide every time you hear or read the letters LSD - doesn't work for me but I still know what LSD stands for.

    I convert them to words of their own by adding vowels as needed to help them roll off the tongue easier.

    For example: LPT -> Luppet

    Have you paid the luppet this year?

    I say DNA as "Dnaaaaaah!"
