Conor Gleeson was a reactionary moment but by the letter of the law, striking an opponent is a sending off.
As for Austin Gleeson, that was a red card all day based on everything we've seen this year. He should be banned but probably won't be.
Hoggy had to be a case of mistaken identity. Cahalane was a silly tackle and definite red that swung the game hugely for Waterford.

So Touhy should be banned to ??? That is not even double standards, treble.

So you say Touhy ok but Aussie not ?

I haven't seen the Touhy incident personally but if he's made a grab at the face mask and pulled it from the players head then yes he should have been banned. It's dangerous play and something that is explicit in the rules. There's no need to do it and it shows a petulance that is part of his game.
Like a previous poster has said, in light of the De Búrca incident and Stephen Bennett's ban earlier in the year, the last thing any Waterford player should have been doing is going anywhere near an opponent's head.

Sickened today lads. Was full sure we were going to win, and you'd have to say if a lot of fellas had turned up we probably would have. No doubt Waterford were the better team yesterday. We never got going. Joe Deane said it at half time that we were in third gear and that's what we were. Cadogan, lehane, Harnedy, Coleman just never got going. Brainless move by Cahalane swung it then and Joyce going for a walk with the ball instead of maybe offloading back to Nash. What could've been eh? Next year!

As regards the final, you'd have to say it's Galway's to lose now. Especially with Waterford missing the 2 Gleesons. Very silly boys.

I think Joyce has gotten away with his mistake for the goal that really turned the game. We were 2 points up and he decides to carry the ball in our full back line and is easily dispossesed and they score a goal from it and go a point up and you could see the Waterford lads lift.

You could see Nash and one other Cork lad (not sure who it was) turn to give him a bollicking . It really was stupid from him...i was surprised it wasn't analyzed on the Sunday game because for me it was then that we lost the game...

It really was a huge turning point. I think ye were about 3/4 up after hitting the last couple of points. Harendy, Horgan, Lehance and Cadogan had points around that period and Cork had all the momentum.

Ye shot yourselves in the foot in all honesty.

Thanks to players and management for their efforts this year. What looked very bleak at the beginning led to Croke Park by way of a Munster title and some thrilling hurling.

have we issues? absolutely but we have also blooded a handful of young lads who will only improve. the job is just beginning but we are certainly going the right way.

Hard luck today lads in a tight game. Some great scores from your forwards under pressure, I think the game changed completely after the sending off. In a game as tight as this I hate it decided like that. I wouldn't have been pissed off in the ref gave Cahalane a warning for the high challenge.
Kingston spoke very well after the game and comes across as a pure gentleman, who imo opinion has Cork back to top table.

We weren't good enough simple as. Same old failings at semi final stage going back to 2012. Not good enough manager needs to take responsibility. Cahalane is a calamity and cost us the game today. Waterford arent 11 points better than us. We made them look better than what they are.
To be fair to Kingston, he has done wonders this year with that side. He has improved Cahalane no end, and Cahalane was doing the business up to the point that he got sent off. When he did go, Cork's structure at the back fell apart. Up to the sending off, I would've thought that Waterford were playing into ye're hands and ye would win it by a couple of points. But after the sending off, it was 5 v 5 in ye're defence and they have good forwards, who when playing on an even pegging can do damage.
Irrespective of the result, Cork found five good players this year, and mores to the point, they'll be better next year as against the older lads who are as good as they are going to get. Add Turnbull and Connery to that next year along with one or two of those U-21s, and within two more years, there's an All-Ireland winning side there, irrespective of the opposition.

I reckon cork should bring Declan Dalton properly into the senior fold after his play for the under 21s

Big strong man who can score at will

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 230 ✭✭Blue Magic

There is so much to be hopeful for into future

Dalton from U21s. O'Leary Hayes, Turnball, Brian Roche and Daire Connery from Minors all look like proper ballers too. Esp O'Leary-Hayes for me. An option for a proper full back long term.

What I'm banking on is a Centre Back to come into our midst soon to match McInerney/Maher/De Burca/Rushe

I've a few question marks about o Leary Hayes after last weekend. Looked quite uncomfortable when dragged around the place

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,077 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

Yes O'Leary Hayes certainly had a tough day last weekend

He will have his hands full in Jack Canning in the final as well

Still I have good hopoes for him

Dalton is a good player and certainly should be brought senior training. Lot to work on though as he wasn't that effected against Limerick where he failed to score from play

Turnbulll is certianly one for the future as is Connery.

Be great if they can get an all ireland medal on the 3rd

Yes but marking probably the best minor in the country - Sean Currie I think his name was. Scored 2-13 in previous game - a bit of a romp match but in the three previous games he scored 27 points to hold him to 3 points from play was fairly good return.

What impressed me most was the balance of the team - a couple of real stars but everyone on the pitch I felt contributed.

I know you'll see this question all over the place but what's the story with final tickets due to the minors' involvement? Do Cork get a decent allocation or just the usual? Would love to be there for the minor final, pity the season ticket won't cover it!

Flying it here. Tearing Galway a new one. Look very impressive although Galway are very poor and are not laying a hand on them.

    6-19 v 1-10

Awesome, simply awesome, from 1-1 v 0-07 down, they simply ripped poor Galway apart.

Do we play the winners of the next game or are the semifinals open draw?

The CCB will get some extra tickets (maybe 70-100 extra l'm guessing) which isn't a whole lot. By the time you've covered the people involved with the minor team there will be nothing.

It will be the usual battle to get All-Ireland tickets, no chance in Cork l would say.

Over the Years I've seen tickets handed over on the Day to genuine fans by fellows who have been given tickets as they are involved in football in their clubs but aren't really that pushed about hurling, so the hurling is a bit easier in that sense.

    We play Mayo.

Cora Staunton was her usual awesome self, some player, stop her and Mayo should be beaten.

We've been very good in the first half of most matches and tonights is no different.

Very good first half sees Cork lead 2-06 v 0-06 Galway

    Cork 2-09 v 1-09 galway

Scraped over the line, but it will do. Not scoring for over 25 minutes and to still win is some achievement.

    Bring on the cats!!

Nail biting end to the Camogie game!

Seemed like Cork played with everyone in their half and that just makes galway come at us in waves.

The thing is though that semi finals are about winning and getting through to the final.Unlike the men the women did it though!

    A few thoughts about Camogie

It is annoying 2 girls going full and honest for the ball and clashing into each other and then the ref gives a free one way and a yellow card for one player.Sometimes these things just happen when 2 honest players going for the ball. This happened in both games today.

Same thing with yellow cards for any kind of contact.Contact happens in Camogie as well as hurlng. I don't see anything malicious in these tackles so no need for cards.

Camogie should ban that hand pass goal/point. Impossible to stop for the defenders! Same thing with dropping the hurley. These rules make sense in either hurling or Camogie.

Minor counties get about 1500 tickets for finals

Back to local GAA the senior hurling championship getting to the interesting stages:

    Round 3 Games:
Carbery v Killeagh - Killeagh just knocked out a strong Douglas side - surprise team of the championships so far...
Glen v CIT (Replay) - Expect Glen to improve from first day but CIT have some good players

    Round 4:
UCC v Midleton - Midleton have been my tip so sticking with them
Sarsfields v Carbery/Killeagh - Sars should be too strong
CIT/Glen Rovers v Na Piarsaigh - Two good wins for Na Piarsaigh so far...
Bandon v Ballymartle - both have been impressive Bandon with wins over Newtown, Carrigtwohill & a close loss AET to the rockies; Ballymartle with wins over the Barrs & Bishopstown while also losing to the rockies
Erins Own v Duhallow - Fancy Erins Own, they scored 4-15 against Midleton that'll win most games & beat Killeagh. Duhallow bounced back from defeat to Sars with win over Bride
    Blackrock a bye
    Imokilly a bye
    Newcestown a bye

    Relegation:
    Barrs v Youghal/Douglas -
    Carrigtwohill v Ballehea
