Google Camera (from the Pixel phones) has been ported to work with other phones (OP5 beingone of them). Might be worth trying out to see how image quality is with it in comparison to the standard camera app. According to XDA it's clean but a risk always remains with 3rd party apps

Have installed it myself but will be at work until later so can't really report on any improvements (if any) as of yet.

    Hi,
I am very keen on buying the OP5.
I have a few questions that someone here may be able help me with.

    (i) I am coming from a nexus 5x, which met an unexpected end, so I already have a usb-c cable and usb-c car charger. Will they work with the OP5.

(ii) What accessories should I be buying. I normally buy a protective case but never the screen protectors. I don't understand how a cheap protector could be a lot better than gorilla glass or that it wouldn't affect inputting on the screen.

(iii) How do you use the referral code. I experimented with this and it seems to be pushing me to an american website with dollar prices etc.

    Thanks for any help.

Yes they will. The OP5 comes with a Dash charger which is really amazing and will shoot a 50% charge into the phone in no time but all other USB C type chargers will also charge the OP5 at "normal" speeds.

I'd recommend getting a dash charger for the car and a Karbon Bumber Case if you want max protection otherwise go for the slimmer protection cases.

The phone comes with a regular screen protector fitted which does the job for me. The Gorilla glass protectors I saw reviewed seem to be tricky to fit, a bit bulky, can break easily in pockets etc and some of them hide the edges of the screen.
(iii) How do you use the referral code. I experimented with this and it seems to be pushing me to an american website with dollar prices etc.

Not sure. I think you just click on it or use it during checkout.

I just clicked it and added to basket and went through the motions - you pick shipping address etc through the checkout.

There's also a flag on the top right to change your location.

There's a paid-shipping option for around 7euro which gets the phone to you in about 2-3 days. Well worth it.

Think I'll pull the trigger and go for the 64gb one

Anyone have a good site to get another plug and cable or is the one plus site the best to buy it off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 460 ✭✭boardswalker

Thanks to Je_Suis_Jean and The Ayatolla for your replies.
I have done a bit more research on the charging.  Nexus 5x had qualcom's fast charge and once you get used to fast charging it's hard to go back.  I could get abut 75% charge in one hour.  This was a good article.  http://www.guidingtech.com/61180/dash-charging-quick-charge-differences/
However, while the physical bits are similar, I learned that the two technologies are different.  The qualcom varies the Volts and the OnePlus technology varies the amps.  With Qualcom an element in the phone regulates the charging and the phone gets hot.  With OP5 the charger regulates the charging and the charger gets hot.
You can interchange the components but you  won't get fast charging on the OP with the qualcom charger and vice versa.
So that sorts that.  I''ll have to get a dash charger for the car if I decide to buy.
    Thanks for you help.

Don't trust it. 2 year warranty is for the original seller. The receipt is in their name, their address and registered to them. Not really worth it tbh.

No. It's pretty much stock android with a couple of handy enhancements.

I just ordered the oneplus 5,i got tired of waiting for the nokia 8,but when i compared the specs, the oneplus 5 looks just as good,if not better than the nokia 8.....and its nearly €100 cheaper!
The only thing that concerns me is how oneplus are with updates,as in getting O,which the nokia 8 will get almost immediately on release.

Won't get it immediately but maybe faster than some other manufacturers. Some estimates say late November/December.

Also, they usually have Beta's along the way for public, if you want to partake! :)

Received my oneplus 5 today what a great phone and what a great battery.

Camera is not as good as what was in my Samsung S6 Edge but good enough for what I want it for.

All in all so far a really great phone.

Did you get caught good cover and screen protector? I notice none of the phone shops stock any screen protectors or accessories for Oneplus. This is a nuisance. I had to buy an otterbox cover from Amazon and a screen protector as the basic screen protector s from Oneplus fell off mine quickly.

Phone shops don't sell the OnePlus, why would you expect them to sell screen protectors or accesories for a phone thay don't stock?

Has anybody bought the phone from https://www.oppomart.com? their price is almost 90 EUR cheaper so I am wondering what's the catch?

You might be hit with custom charges

Plus might come loaded with HyrdrogenOS, rather than OxygenOS, although flashing it with the latter is probably no biggie.

Also, I'd prefer to be dealing with OnePlus rather than Oppomart for returns or warranty claims.
