I agree with you that it's not professional to be rude or aggressive to a guest. However both presenters don't pretend to be objective. It's obvious what political leanings both have. That's not a big deal to me, it's their right. This is a private station.

Just as George Hook has the right to air his political opinions on his show.

This isn't true though. Private station or not, they are required to be objective.

A journalist should be objective. I'm not sure if I'd call either of them journalists at this stage.

No idea where you got the notion that a journalist (or a radio station) should be objective?

A journalist does not have to be. A presenter of a current affairs radio programme does.

I suppose it's where you drawn the line between news and opinion.

It's in the BAI Code of Conduct. Otherwise you end up with Fox News.

    A link would be good.

As far as I am aware there is no obligation on a presenter of a current affairs programme to be objective.

    http://www.bai.ie/en/codes-standards/
It is an important part of the role of a presenter of a current affairs programme to ensure that the audience has access to a wide variety of views on the subject of the programme or item; to facilitate the expression of contributors‘ opinions – sometimes by forceful questioning; and to reflect the views of those who cannot, or choose not to, participate in content. This being so, a presenter and/or a reporter on a current affairs programme shall not express his or her own views on matters that are either of public controversy or the subject of current public debate such that a partisan position is advocated.

Chris Donoghue got in trouble for this during the coverage of the marriage referendum.

Chris interviewing the Brazilian girl who was taken to Mountjoy Prison because of an immigration 'query'. 'So then you had to get naked?'

Wow like she had a choice. It's called being strip searched you fool. Call it what it actually is, not like it's some kind of porn movie or your beloved Game of Thrones.

As a matter of interest what constitutes a current affairs programme? Is Hooks programme, for example ,one or is there a defined category for topical matters /opinion etc .How much of the content would need to be current/political/ etc.

Hadn't listened in a while but turned over to it on two separate occasions yesterday and both times, within 60 seconds of tuning in, Sarah was giggling away to her own "jokes" like a schoolgirl again.

I actually used to really like her before she found almost everything to be so hilarious.

Did anyone hear yesterday which movie Chris watched recently that "had the whole house up all night"?

Did yer wan Sarah McInerney ever have a moments doubt about anything?! She is all 'this is how it is', the idea she could be wrong has clearly never entered her head.

Still pushing the fallacy that there is a gender pay gap for people in the same jobs?

Will Sarah McInerney be staying on I wonder as I can't see her putting up with Ivan's infantile innuendo and poor attempts at humour.

Fantastic news! I'd almost given up on Newstalk ... I'll look forward to listening to Ivan on the way home from work. I would like Chris to stay on though, they work well together.
