just got mine, feels a good bit heftier than the Platinum.

    same size

nova launcher makes it looks and feel like the old phone though.

Why did you change from the platinum to this? The platinum would wipe the floor performance wise compared to the V8 Is say.

    you think?

A72 v A53 cores, safe to say it would.

A72 v A53 cores, safe to say it would.

It all depends on your usage to be honest. If your usage is basic enough you're just not going to notice the difference between these CPUs. Well not in any drastic way at least. Web, messaging and mail wont show any meaningful performance difference here I reckon.

The Vodafone shop guy told me that the camera was 12 mega pixel, but the online notes say 16 - can anyone confirm please?

My Huawei G7 is on its last legs. So looking at this one, have a spare Meteor SIM so can get the €50 off, is it better than the Sony XA1? Which is €70 more... Or can you recommend another phone under €300. Cheers.

With the €50 port discount making it €200 it's fantastic, Even better value when you unlock it for less then €2 on eBay. I use mine on meteor with no problems at all.

Try another store. I went in with 2 very old sims and he didn't even have a phone to take one of them it was so big. :)

He just said fuck it and gave me 2 new phones for 199 each. :)

Porting wouldn't go through on the computer system. Thinking of popping to another Vodafone store tomorrow afternoon. Maybe use the phone a lil more. But they are saying it's Meteor saying no to the port.

They insisted they test out the SIM to be sure it was active before porting an old three sim for me. They had to ring the number. I borrowed a phone of someone and came back in since my phone was locked to meteor and had no way of testing it.

That's interesting. Maybe contact meteor? Or see about getting a sim from another network?

There is one update I'd like to give on this phone, the screen brightness is ok but it could be brighter. My older phone had a brighter screen but this is still ok.

I'm just guessing but maybe they have some validation to ensure that it is a genuine account that they are switching from? Maybe the guys who built the rules aren't as dumb as they might seem, and aren't going to give €50 discount for picking up a free SIM?

Pick up the free SIM and register it in your name, then get on your skates and go to the Vodafone store. They can do all the checks they want then. The number your porting is registered in your name so no issue.

Even at €200 you can be sure they are still making a healthy profit on these handsets. What do Vodafone pay ZTE per handset they make for them? Probably €50 each or less considering the bulk they are bought in. These look like expensive handsets but they are a Chinese phone with Vodafone stamped on the back of them. Nothing wrong with them being a ZTE device either since they are one of the better China phones, the build quality on the V8 is excellent to.

Registered the number online yesterday, so if time tomorrow I'll give it another shot.

Upgraded the missus from SU6, battery is terrible. Battery manager is saying screen 62% drain. I deleted a weather app she installed to see if any improvement.

    Any other ideas?

Battery life is the opposite for me, an improvement over my older Ultra 6, I don't generally use auto brightness so I have that disabled. My screen says 13% battery usage right now and I've used it abit today.

Go into storage - internal storage , tap 'Cached data' and clear it...

Also check for a system update, Mine got a 115mb OTA a few days ago and it said stability improvements.

It is expected that the screen would be the number one battery user. The real question is what screen on time does it show. My smart ultra 6 can still manage to get 5+ hours of screen on time per charge. The only caveat there is that my screen brightness would be kept relatively low.

Thanks for your help guys. Stereosound I tired your suggestion and screen is down to 7% today.

She is light phone user so it should easily last the day. She reported a big difference today in the battery. Really didn't want to do a factory reset!

Also what's app message preview show up on the screen even when it's set to off, very annoying. It's an android problem same on the Samsung S7 and S8. I got a fix on XDA, if anyone is interested.

Is there anyway I can get to test out this phone for a day or two before I commit? There are a couple of apps that I really want to check out, and I'd love to see the camera quality before I finalise.

I've checked the Vodafone returns policy, and it is a little vague on this:

    https://n.vodafone.ie/terms/shop.html

" Diminished Value of Goods: Where you have used the products or services supplied to you to avail of mobile services before the expiry of the cooling off period you will be liable for any diminished value of the products or services."

Would using the phone on wifi only result in 'diminished value' and how could this be quantified?

If you break the seal on the box they won't take it back because they cannot sell it on.

Any recommendations for a case for the V8? As expected not a lot of options with a new phone.

I got a nice transparent one on crapbay, took seller two weeks to send it from Spain so I won't be recommending him. The case itself is fine though, came with tempered glass.

Don't fork out the silly money in the Vodafone store for the cases they are selling for it. I've looked at them and there 'ok' at best. Deffo not worth paying €20 upwards for unless your desperate for something today.

€30 would you believe for the one in the shop I was in....

I'll keep looking, just worried as I'm a clumsy fool...
