Really gonna miss Ninko, had an incredible knack of stepping up big when needed.

Cyrus Jones giving up a 97 yard TD. Won't be around too much longer

Gotta say I think the kid has talent and I think he'll make it if he gets enough time. I just have this faith in the guy, I'm expecting him to turn into a real good one.

DJ Foster putting himself near the cut line with that fumble.

I know it is preseason but Jimmy looks sharp that score before the half was the perfect 2min drill and then to start the 2nd half on fire also.

He needs to hurry up and get his **** together or he wont make it out of camp. He is awful tonight.

Sums up his time in NE. Only hanging on as he was a 2nd round pick. Based on performances, no reason not to cut him.

That TD catch by Austin Carr was fantastic. He's been one of the stars of camp so far and great to see him carry it into last night too. Would love to see him make the roster, but the WR position is stacked. Maybe a mysterious case of Foxboro Flu could see him hit IR, or maybe he makes it to the practise squad but I wouldn't be confident he'd clear waivers.

You figure Edelman, Cooks, Hogan, Amendola, Mitchell and Slater will make it unless there's a surprise cut. Hard to see us carrying 7 WRs, even if Slater is really just a ST body.

Jacob Hollister was the star for me last night. He was looking to be free all night and snagged some tough catches. It reminds me a little of AJ Derby last preseason but this guy looks even better.

Carr was impressive too and for him and maybe Jacob too it's going to come down to how much they can do on ST's. If they show good ability there then they are both going to make the roster I think.

Cyrus Jones was horrendous, in all aspects of the game. The only positive he had was he didnt fumble any returns in this game. But he was beaten twice in coverage on long touch downs for the Jags. And really badly too. And his returns were way below average at best. He caught one 8 yards deep and brought it out to the 8. He never looked at all like breaking out a big return. I really dont see anything in him to turn it around. Usually you would see something in a player that says he has something about him, but I have yet to see anything in Jones to say he will ever be a backup, nevermind a first teamer.

Super TD catch for Carr though. Garropolo showed some nice plays again. Jacoby not so much, but he is a bit off that level just yet. Even the silly things, the last 2 hail mary attempts and both thrown out the back of the endzone. Rookie errors that he needs to work on, Bills situational plays.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Amendola cut to be honest but you figure no one is safe really given our history if Bill really likes Carr he will be kept and someone else will go. The question is though the rapport Jimmy has with him does Brady have the same rapport.

One thing about Carr he has the attitude the Patriots like hard worker proving he has what it takes. Former walk on at Northwestern.

Carr and Hollister seemed to have very good games. That touchdown catch was excellent by Carr. Sharp start for Garoppolo too.

There's no chance, he's possibly the most clutch receiver on the roster, not to mention he just restructured. He's caught 5 of the most important catches in Patriots history.

Very true. Belichick is well known for making sentimental roster decisions and rewarding players for what they've done in the past. :pac:

It's nothing to do with sentiment, he's an excellent receiver, with arguably the best hands in the team, bar perhaps Gronk. There's a reason he is most often the go-to option when the team needs to convert crucial 3rd or 4th downs.

There is not a player on the team that isn't safe from being cut and I include Tom Brady in this also. When Bills finds it's time to release you or trade you he will.

Besides I said I wouldn't be surprised if he was cut I didn't say he would be. I actually wouldn't be surprised if any of those WR were cut at this point. See above.

Amendola just restructured his contract so it's pretty much guaranteed that he will be staying around. As said earlier he is as clutch as they come too.

You are missing the point of what I said as did Abusestoilets. I simply said I wouldn't be surprised if he did get cut.

Remember Belichick cares only about their future potential production.

BB doesn't guarantee anyone a roster spot, the restructure simply means that Amendola wont be cut because of his contract.

Everyone is focused on Danny, but is Mitchell under any pressure here?
I didn't see the game, only the highlights, so while Carr looked good it's hard for me to compare the role he'd play to anyone else.

He cares about the playoffs too and Amendola has been pretty spectacular in big games. This is why I'm saying he won't be cut. He'd have to have an average to poor run in the playoffs to get cut imo.

Anybody have that feeling that this roster looks too good on paper and something has to give?

I see your point here, and agree. If Amendola was cut, I wouldnt be massively surprised. Do I think he will be cut or think Bill will cut him? No. I just wouldnt rule it out.

For anyone going over to a game this year, or any of our Boston residents already over there, this might be handy:

    https://www.bus.com/events/patriots

They're trialling it for Week 1 - a $5 return trip from Boston to Foxboro. The company did a mini Q&A on Reddit if you wanna know more: https://www.reddit.com/r/Patriots/comments/6tomjc/new_shuttle_service_from_boston_to_gillette/

    Again missing my point.

Exactly this. Learned not to be surprised by any move Bill makes these days.

I don't know why EE you or AT think I said he will be cut when I never said that. I just said I wouldn't be surprised if he was cut. I would say the same for any player at this point including Tom Brady. Bill will do what Bill does and the level of shock or surprise will be minimal by me.

This will be a huge service can't see how it would fail to be honest. Especially if they put a few buses on. I can see them raising the price a tad eventually though.

Only drawbacks would be Thursday night games leaving Boston anytime after 4pm would be a killer.

I take your point, and would generally agree that BB is pragmatic when weighing the value of a given player.

I've read speculation that Bolden is a likely cut, along with the possibilty that Slater goes on IR to start the season. Wouldn't be shocked if Dola went on IR too tbh.

Ugh, that blows. He was supposed to be coming into his own after a slow start at camp.

That leaves our DE depth as: Flowers, Ealy, Wise, Grissom and 2 guys who supposedly exist called Caleb Kidder and Keionta Davis.

Flowers looks to be talented, but I don't know how sustainable he is long term as our only pass rush if he's not getting any help on the other side. Ealy has been severely underwhelming in camp, and it's been suggested that we've begun to realise that he's more of an inside guy than an edge guy. Wise, I dont really know what to expect - from what I've read he's not your prototypical edge guy either and more of a run/pressure guy than a sack getter. What we've seen of Grissom has been pretty bland if not solid.

We're gonna have to kick some tyres in FA or make a trade. Mike Dussault (who I was very happy to see get accredited as a Patriots beat writer earlier this month) said it best earlier this month - if you're an opposing team and you see Wise/Grissom at DE with Van Noy/McClellin/Freeny behind him at OLB, then you're automatically running the ball that direction.

We also face the likes of Brees, Stafford, Ryan, Rivers, Carr, Winston etc. this year so a pass rush would be nice. It's really the only part of the roster I have big worries about. Would like to get either a FA vet or trade for someone on their rookie deal.
