FadaÃ*/accent problem returns

For the past few days the problem with using fadaí and accents has re-emerged: the letter upon which the accent is disappears. It is not consistently happening this time, however, but it is recurrently happening. I just spelt régime and it came out rgime (I edited and reposted the same accent over the e and it came out perfectly). It even appears correct in the preview but appears on the site with the letters missing.
    I'll try these:

    Seán
    Áine
    Éamonn
    éire
    Iníon
    INÍON
    Úna
    achoimriú
    Ó Dónaill
    órbhuí
    d'être

Issue seems to arise if you go to edit a post that had accents in it...and possibly in titles. Going to be looking at this again this week. Thanks for raising this.

Just noticed in this post where I wrote 'with the whole Sinn Féin and...' it came out as 'with the whole Sinn F and...' (and I went back to double check and I did write Sinn Féin.) Not sure why three letters are now being lost.

It could be a breakdown between the receiving of the data and the saving of it to the database. Proving to be a bit of a headache.

Most likely this is a ISO-8859-1 to/from UTF-8 character conversion issue. It's best to keep it all consistent, ideally UTF-8. However that may not be practical if historically the DB had a different character set.

That is indeed the issue. We hope to have a fix live soon.

We've rolled out a fix, so hopefully all should be right with accents again. But please highlight any instances if they reappear so we can create a log.

Issue is still here or at least has returned: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057833863

I've tried both Chrome and Firefox, but can't replicate. What version of Firefox are you using? Can you clear your cache and cookies please to see if that helps? Or try a different browser.

Hi Mark. I'm using Firefox ESR 52.6.0. I tried both that and Chromium (latest version) in fresh profiles. Both are not showing the full Irish word.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
