I had left 4 on in the background (The Proms) while face in the lap top. Wouldn't normally be my thing but there was a trumpeter on 'James Morrison', a tribute to Dizzy Gillespie I think. The guy was on fire. Brilliant musician.

Sandie Shaw just fitted right in with the Smiths and 1984. 17 years after puppet on a string.

Echo and the bunnymen looked like they belonged in 1993. In 1984.

Very sad news, but, unfortunately, something that we all knew was coming for a while now.... It's never been fashionable to admit liking Glen Campbell (because most people just think of Rhinestone Cowboy and lump him in with that kinda stuff) but I hope that like most artists, his career will get a proper evaluation now that he's dead (why it can never be done while the person is around to see it, I'll never understand) and his late 60's/early 70's stuff is given the legendary status that it deserves.

The only positive thing I can say from all of this is that we're going to hear a lot of classics on the airwaves for the next few weeks....

    R.I.P. Glen.

    Hi,

I don't see anything in the schedules yet for Glen Campbell.[Edit - There is Now! Schedules now updated Including that Doc mentioned next. Also Sky Arts are showing I'll be me on Sunday at 9.45pm, so the rest of this paragraph is now entirely obsolete!] BBC Wales made a very good show a few years ago 'Glen Campbell The Rhinestone Cowboy' which was well received around here, but I could only see the first half of it on Youtube just now. Hopefully they will repeat it soon. The excellent 'I'll Be Me' which covered Glen's final tour and fight against Alzheimers was on rotation on Sky Arts until last month, but it's on Netflix now so I suspect Sky's broadcast rights might have expired.

BBC Radio 2 have a couple of special shows scheduled
