Can anyone think of an actual alternative to the current transfer system as I think it's rotten right the way through. The fact agents are getting rich off of all of it is the most sickening part for me. The situation where players are locked into contracts is another part I don't like as it seems to destabilise clubs. I genuinely think the big clubs are starting to get really pissed off with the cost of doing business. Its out of control.

We got Rojo because he did similar to Matic.

Anyway, doesn't Jose say any player who doesn't want to play for him can be sold?

I said the same regarding Rojo at the time, and Saha back in the day iirc.

Not a fan of that type of attitude from Matic, if true. You signed a contract. Play to it.

Two sides to it though. Chelsea offered a contract to make sure they got as much value for their asset.

Also, he was unlikely to be be playing to the new contract since Conte wasn't going to be playing him all that often.

But I do get where you're coming from where players attempt to force a club that doesn't want to sell them. There is a difference if you don't have a future at the selling club though.

Look at his actions over the summer before he was sold near the last day.

I'm genuinely wondering what he done. I'm sure there were reports of him doing all sorts but did he specifically do anything like mention them in an interview or anything. I know you were using him as an example but I think all clubs and players are guilty of forcing their own agenda with whatever means possible and I wouldn't take too much notice of it as it's the nature of negotiations. There's no morale high ground in football on either side.

In Bales case he wanted to play for a club where he'd win major trophies and also get paid significantly more than what he'd get at Spurs. We'd all do the same.

Id say Matic was facing a rotation or bench roll and really didn't want to be at Chelsea anymore so I'd say he pushed to be sold but doubt he threatened to strike.

Would it be better if all you had to do was buy out the players contract value?

So player x signs a 5 year contract with United at a value of €10 million in wages a year and after one year the buying club only has to pay United €40 million, €30 million after 2 years, and so on.

It ensures long term contracts for players being offered but sets a maximum value which is directly related to how greedy they are. So if players x wants to earn €10 million a year he has to realise his buyout value is significantly larger than if he earned less.

I'm sure people would say it will negatively effect smaller clubs as they can't hit the jackpot by selling a player for massive amounts of money, but Id argue that business model is flawed anyway as those clubs are priced out of the market on players as a result of the inflated prices.

The United Stand is so flip floppy.

Another United signing and another chance to laugh at @UnitedStandMUFC

    Re: The United Stand

That guy Mark is a serious click bait merchant with the way he names the titles for the YouTube videos. He's also way too moany about players and performances in my opinion. He seems to either love or hate players with no in between.

I give him points for living in Malahide for 3 years around 1999. He likes Ireland a lot. But he goes on rants and he mixes up players names all the time and confuses the hell out of me as I'm unsure who he is ranting about. He'll be a nightmare when he's a pensioner if he's a confused crank now.

Travelling up to the match tomorrow from South by car, where's best to park for the Aviva?

Up there a few weeks ago for a concert and we parked along parking bays in the Herbert park and if you leave it facing the right way you should have no issues getting out onto the motorway or n11.

I see Bale left training with another injury again. No idea how bad it is, but there's too much of a trend there for the money people are talking about .

Has anyone posted the Neymar deal rumour?

There was a load of Carrick shíte earlier I skipped so might have been in there. But apparently Qatar want to pay Neymar €300 million to be an ambassador for the World Cup so he can buy himself out of his contract and sign for PSG on a free. If that's true it's mental. I'd love it to happen as it might force Fifa/Uefa to dismantle the corrupt transfer system.

Maybe he just refused to train to force a move.

Not a fan of that type of attitude from Matic, if true. You signed a contract. Play to it.

Really not picking an argument here Mitch, just curious. What is the ideal way for a transfer to be completed in your view? It's coming across as you being a little hard to please here, and apologies if that's not the case.

I know we all can be hard to please from time to time, but you were voicing frustration over United not fronting the cash to get the likes of the Matic deal over the line. Since the deal was completed, Jose has thanked Matic for his efforts in getting the deal done, and said it would not have happened only for Matic's efforts to push it through. He even hinted that he'd like to see that from other potential signings in future as it can be necessary to get the deal done.

From that, it can be suggested (although not stated as fact) that United were offering enough money all along for Matic but Chelsea were still resistant. It wasn't a much-improved offer in the end which got the deal done and Chelsea to break that contract, but the player telling the selling club that he badly wanted to leave for United and be released from the contract.

If that's the case, then it wasn't as simple as United not offering enough cash - which you were vocal about before the signing, it was about the player going above and beyond their part in the transfer process - which you have been vocal about here. How should it have been done? I wouldn't be a fan of that reported attitude of Matic's either, but I wanted a DM and that deal done. We really can't have it every way.

I value loyalty and contracts, but in today's Football Inc., I believe it to be a different beast to most other big businesses. These players, humans, are traded like numbers on a page when it suits clubs, they are also used as items of pride at times (Perez won't sell Morata to United for €83m, but will sell to Chelsea for €67m ) and it's not always about the most money and/or a contract ending at the right time.

Sure, we don't like the thoughts of Matic threatening to go strike with Chelsea because, among other things, what if he did it with us? Never mind Matic, we wouldn't like any of our current players doing similar to try to leave OT. However, Matic would be dropped and shipped out like a broken asset if it didn't suit Chelsea, no matter what his contract says. Same happens at all clubs, look at us and Rooney.

If a player expresses a desire to leave and goes above and beyond to see a transfer through, like Matic, it's in the minority compared to how regular the opposite can happen with 'club to player' loyalty. Sure there are rare times when the player goes way overboard and starts moaning to the media, social and regular, and it can be petulant in the least. However, we didn't see any of that with Matic. It all happened behind closed doors and now we are going on reports of what Matic might have done next.

Had it have gotten to that point of Matic refusing to play for Chelsea to get the transfer through - I can't honestly say that I would have been more disappointed with his oath-breaking than I would have been impressed with his desire to play for United/Jose.

The Bale ship has long sailed, it just makes no sense to spend mouth watering money on a player becoming increasingly more injury prone.

Would be a lot more comfortable if we brought in another attacker, I'm not sure how much faith I would have in the ones from last year finding form and maintaining it to the level we need. Nobody has nailed down a spot in the 3 behind Lukaku, Chelsea, City and Spurs have consistent players in there and you need them to win the league.

Just watched Pool/Bayern if they can keep everyone fit they'll have a good season, Salah is gonna be a great signing for them.

Gonna be an extremely competitive season, I really hope theres a surprise signing or two for us before the window closes.

Could be wrong but I don't think they have the squad depth atm, sturridge injured himself again( great striker but made of glass) ings is still out with back to back awful injuries, they have a solid MF but weak enough def/gk, they are like city last year great going foward but poor at the back but city seem to have fixed that with Liverpool are still trying to
