They really should get rid of Porter and replace him with Muireann and Lenny. It's a nice easy listen from 12pm - 2:30pm. I've only listened to one of Porter's shows since he began and it's not for me. I switch over from Today FM at 12pm and I don't go back. I bet there's a lot of others like me. Very damaging in the long run for Today FM.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Dara Quilty would be my choice to take over from Al. I'm not saying Muireann isn't good, but Dara Quilty has huge potential. I LOVE his show on 98FM - When I Was 17, 1 Note Guessing Game etc - and it has even surpassed Eoghan McDermott for me, who I used to listen to every evening on XFM. Dermot and Dave were promoted to Today FM from the very same slot so when Dara finishes up on 98FM, Today FM would be the natural promotion.

I quite like her after 12 but I find her a bit overpowering at 9, tbh. That's down to me being a slow starter in the mornings though so not really a criticism of her in that spot.

I also find myself turning over before 12, normally at 11.30, Al Porters voice just grates on me, and I wouldn't really return till 7pm.

If they were actively trying to jettison listeners, they have definitely succeeded.

I had the mispleasure of listening to Saturday Breakfast today having not heard the breakfast show in a couple of years. It really has changed I thought I could have been listening to iradio or Spin. Is Phil Calwey now the only relic left with his classic 9 at 11?(which I do like).

I find him to be a very strange character.
For a start he's completely lost whenever his producer Ed Smith isn't in the studio with him.
He puts in a really weird voice sometimes when introducing a song or band. I don't know if he's trying to be "cool" or what but it just sounds ridiculous. There's no need for it. Why does he have to put on that voice?
It's toe curling stuff when he's interviewing a singer or group. He totally over ingratiates himself to the point where it's just embarrassing.
The weirdest thing I find though is the way he is constantly and I mean constantly reminiscing about his youth and growing up. He is always going on about growing up in the 80s and 90s. It's like he doesn't want to be the age he is now and he's going back in time to relive his youth....on the national airwaves!

    Couldn't agree more.
I have to say I do like Muireann but she can be a bit OTT.
Does she have to be sooooo enthusiastic about just about everything!!!
I do find her accent really weird though. I know she's from Limerick but I have never met anyone from Limerick who talks like that.
She definitely deserves her own show though and when you see the eejits who are getting shows she must feel very hard done by.

The youth thing isn't new either. When he was on iradio he was constantly on about it, to the point my office renamed him Fergal "do ya remember when" D'arcy.
Pretty sure there is an illness associated with repeated referrals to your youth and the inability to let go of your past.

Something I find odd with Muireann is she starts a sentence, stops someway into it, then starts again and finishes it, does it a lot.

Going on about microwaving her tea the other day really flogged it to death.

I was a long-time listener of Today FM, and Ian Dempsey in particular. I switched because I couldnt take any more Gift Grub, it was putting me in a bad mood. I recently started listening again on the creche run and have the unfortunate timing to coincide with Paula McSweeneys section.

I remember reading criticism in here before but never minded her so much. Now though, all you get is constant references to the fact she has a boyfriend, and hes from Swords. Then the worst part - she has started doing these awful sound effects which no one except her think are funny. Youve got to listen to her laugh at her own cleverness, and repeat the "punchline" for added effect.

    Back to Spotify for me.

I listened to Ian briefly at the end of last year before I got an internet radio that I could set an alarm on so I could listen to BBC 5 and (later) Red FM.

I always felt when Shauna was filling in for Paula on that particular segment it was much more enjoyable. Not that I disliked Paula, it just felt like Shauna and Ian bounced off each other better.

That's a bit of a shame. I think he'd have been good to take over The Last Word.

Today FM has lost its place on the office radio...in favour of Nova...something I never thought I would say. If they could poach a few decent daytime presenters, if they ever get their national licence, they'd be set. Music has improved a good bit lately.

Gavan Reilly was always wasted as a political correspondent on a primarily music driven station with occasional appearances on the Last Word, he was never going to hang around forever.

Exactly. A man of his capability should be the main presenter on a regular weekday slot somewhere. Not standing in the shadows waiting for the cushiest chair in journalism to open up to him.

Today FM is basically a Communicorp hybrid of RTE Radio 1 and 2FM. Several of their presenters used to be on 2FM (Dempsey, Porter, Ó hEochagáin) but I'm not sure about R1.

I don't think there is anyone currently involved with Today FM with a Radio 1 link. Incidentally, Phil Cawley was a presenter on 2FM in the late '80s. Today FM used to have other former Radio 2 / 2FM presenters: Declan Meehan, Jim O'Neill and the late Tony Fenton.

I think Today FM is no longer getting its staff from RTE. If you look at the music presenters, there are a lot from regional stations like iRadio or other parts of Communicorp, including the now defunct TXFM. Maybe in a few years time, it may start taking some of the younger presenters from 2FM that also came from the regionals or Spin!

Gavin Reilly obviously taking Vincent Brownes slot as I predicted on Twitter when he announced his retirement.

You never know there could be a Dermot and Bernard (Republic of Telly) reunion, or a Joe & Keith one.

He's not. He's the Political Correspondent for 3News.

Why are they telling us what songs are coming up with snippets?
And why are a lot of songs getting little intros now?

Sadly to say I'm going to jump on the bandwagon here.

Was a fan of today before these changes started happening, might not be everyone's taste but Anton savage did have some very good moments / interviews. and avoided some mainstream music that is very irritating (if I have to listen to Beyonce sing girls, ggrrrr it's very annoying)

The music has gotten shocking lately during the day. It has nearly turned into FM104 I think at this stage, particularly disliking telling us what is about to come on, sticking to the mainstream music which would generally be hip hop, Rihanna , bieber etc.

Aswell as repeating songs over and over.... Nova ? No thanks they do it too....

There's only a few things keeping it alive for me, the main one being Paul mccloone, ed with songs of praise and lost in music with Louise Duffy has good moments too but after that I can't stick.

I don't find Dermot and Dave funny in the slightest and their interviews are very dragged out / bland

I expected more from Ian Dempsey

The Canadian im sure is very nice but she doesn't offer a lot.

So I think for me during the day it's going to be the music collection / Spotify and during the evenings a bit of lost in music and Paul mccloone.

It is sad that in Ireland I cannot find an alternative radio station for the type of music that is not mainstream. Missing phantom quite a bit
