washing machine without water feed

Possibly a silly question here. Does a washing machine need a feed of water to run or is there a pump in the washing machine that would allow you to use like a drum of water instead

As far as I know, washing machines require water to be pressurised and are not capable of pumping in water, they usually just have a solenoid valve that lets in water when required.
There's nothing to stop you having the drum above the machine and using gravity feed, but it may be slow to fill.

Some machines won't operate at all if there isn't sufficient water pressure feeding the machine.
