I don't get why ADHD is so readily diagnosable with these pricks, yet C.U.N.T. seems to always slip through the net...

The judicial system needs serious overhauling and investment.
These low-lifes know the chances of jail time is slim, so there is no deterrent to make them think twice before doing things like this.
Pick somewhere in the middle of nowhere and build a huge high secure prison, introduce Minimum sentencing, especially for this kind of crime, your caught, found guilty, minimum jail time, for something like this at least at least 15 years.
In my opinion the government are cowards, don't want to be seen as the wielder of the big stick. Well get the finger out mr TD, because it could easily be your family next.
If that was my mother those two would be wishing they were never released, because their miserable lives would be seriously impaired once we got our hands on them.

You don't necessarily need a multi million euro spanking new prison. There are lots of demands on our valuable tax dollars.

Pick a deserted or near deserted island off the west coast. Bring out a shit load of timber and razer wire. Build fences and machine gun towers. The camp in mates will sleep in the elements. Help to build discipline and fortitude in them. They will occupy their days on alternating teams digging trenches and filling them in. Indiscipline or poor work ethic will result in no food or water. 'Food' being a very loose term for what they're served.

No time off for good behavior. Time added on for bad behavior.

Cash, who has 96 previous convictions, including 29 for previous thefts and burglaries, was on bail at the time.

WTF?? Seriously what the absolute FUCCK. My brain can't even process that sentence, it's so absurd.

It'd be one thing if this guy's sociopathic and sadistic tendencies were a one-off and based on some sort of drug he had taken or something, but he not only has previous form for being a dangerous scumbag, but he's been CAUGHT 96 TIMES FOR IT. And managed to get bail despite it all?

The Irish judiciary can fucck right off. That's an absolute disgrace.

8 years is ridiculous, he'll be out in 5.

I think the sentences are so short because they have literally no where to house convicted criminals.
A mate of mine who works for the Prison service said it's a joke, he said it costs €60k per annul to keep an individual locked up.
Death penalty is substantially cheaper option, but there is a risk you could execute an innocent person.

I think Private Prisons like that have in the US could potentially be an idea. (You outsource the sh*t you don't care about, no one cares about criminals)

Total scumbag, just like this fella sentenced to life today. Again, will probably be out in 15/20 years (Minus the 4 he's already served)

Total under investment in the Prison Service... you'd wonder where all our tax dollars go!?
Dearh penalty is more expensive in US than LWP

This is what's wrong with the whole system in a nutshell.

I think this has to be a main talking point at any future elections.

If people make noise they will have to listen.

Youre misunderstanding... they are not excuses but pleas in mitigation offered by the defence to the Court when deciding sentence.

A court must look at the offender's personal circumstances as well as the offence when deciding sentence.

Not misunderstanding, but yes maybe misworded, however my point remains the same, These factors must be noted and are areas that need addressing if present but i firmly believe that they should not be used to reduce custodial sentences.

I have dealt with many many violent individuals, many who have drug and drink addiction issues, come from broken homes but that i care less of when i see these people attack or harass innocent people.

The courts must be impartial but where is the justice for people who have never done wrong and are at the receiving end of a unprovoked attack. Certainly none in this case.

I'm fairly sure these 2 fcuktards got a good hiding because of this.

Whatever happens to them, it wont be harsh enough. Fcuking dickheads.

The people who have the power to change the law/sentencing have a large percentage of the blame to shoulder to what happened to that poor woman, while I agree the sc*mbag who perpetrated the heinous act should be removed from society forever, the law makers need to shoulder some/a lot of the responsibility.far too many liberals who don't live in the real world.

He will be wishing for the Death penalty when he goes inside,

Sadly he will be locked up away from the others as no doubt someone inside will want to carve him up.

    Yep,

But that because the Prisons are Privately run. (Bar the state penitentiary )
If they killed all the Prisoners how would the prison company make money?

It's been set up so that it's more expensive for the state to have a person executed.

    Bullets
    Electricity
    Rope
    Drugs*
... these aren't prohibitively expensive things. (With the possible exception of drugs)

Realistically it would be more economically viable to have the death penalty, instead of having the same offenders constantly in and out of prison costing us a fortune. Just saying

Have met this piece of sh*t Cash in the prison where I work. I generally don't look up what the inmates have done and never did with him. I treat them all as I would anyone else I meet until they give me a reason not to. However, knowing what this scumbag did to this old lady is gonna make it very very difficult for me to treat him with decency should our paths cross again. Fcuking scrote.

The fella that tortured and killed those 2 brothers in Castlebar is a good example of someone who should swing from a rope, beat them with sticks and threw hot water over them.

    Scumbag.

The bad decision is the decision to release them at some time.
Why release them when it is almost 100% certain they will commit similar crimes?

That goes back to my argument about the law makers and power that be,they are as much sc*umbags as the perpetrators, they have to shoulder some of the blame.

This poxy trend of X years with Y suspended is absolutely bonkers. Also, all convicted offenders AUTOMATICALLY get a quarter off their sentence straight away. Did you guys know that? So for every year thats handed down, it's really 9 months. When you hear a fella getting 8 years, he's getting 6. That's for supposed good behaviour but they're not made to earn it. It automatically is put down as remission. Sure they can lose it for bad behaviour (they rarely do) but surely the incentive should be to earn it? Farcical really.

    ****ing vermin.

Any comment from Martin Collins or Pavee Point on this? I didn't think so.

The amount of this type of crime committed by this "ethnic community" is horrific. Not just burglary and theft but GBH and assault. The revolving door of the "justice" system is laughable.

He may have had his critics, but Pádraig Nally had the right idea. These type of animals deserve nothing but hot lead.

I couldn't give a fcuk about Pavee Point or Martin Collins or if he's a Traveller or settled. Don't need anyone to tell me that this guy is a complete scumbag and is exactly what I'd call a fcuking scrote, piece of sh*t, a knacker, a dirtbird. This is what a knacker is to me, settled or traveller doesn't come into it. Utter human garbage.

Mrs Sutton has been ill served by the Irish State.

Compared to the amount of resources which will now be expended upon both of her attackers, she will have received little by way of recompense.

Let nobody be under any illusion on this, the Irish State and it's law abiding taxpayers have now taken on full responsibility for the funding of a long term project to "rehabilitate" mssrs Cash & O'Brien.

This will entail making available a variety of "Initiatives" and "stimuli" to convince a pair of barbarians, that being decent has some rewards.

There will be little in the way of means testing or justification for shelling out good money on this pair, but, you can rest assured that should Mrs Sutton require any additional assistance, she will be Means Tested to hell and back to justify it.

One can be fairly confident, that both perpretrators in this case will be out in fairly short order.
If both can contain their youthful high-spirits whilst locked up,they will recieve automatic 50% remission, with additional time available should they manage to catch the eye of a receptive Psychologist or Counsellor.

I'd suggest both will be out within 24-36 months, totally reformed, and ready to be compliant contributors to Irish Society.

In the meantime, the rest of us should pause a moment to reflect on our Parents,Grandparents and older friends and family, and consider how they would have suffered at the hands of this pair of losers.

I'm confident that Judge O'Shea, like most sentient beings, would have preferred his sentence to adequately reflect a suitable Punishment for this savagery, however the Judge HAS to play the game dictated to him by the sentencing restrictions imposed by the Supreme Court's interpretation of what it considers appropriate in terms of rehabilitation, and assorted other codology, all carefully worded to avoid the use of the term "Punishment".

Short of a spate of early retirements from the Supreme Court, and a new and more reflective selection process for Judges in general, this form of abberational sentencing will continue until Public Opinion forces a rethink.

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

These are the type of vermin who just need to be taken out to the woods and a bullet put in the back of their head. I'm tired of reading about vermin like these and how they get away basically scot free with it.

I would find it extremely difficult to accept this type of "justice" being given for such a brutal attack.

Its easy to say but these animals deserve pain. They know and respond to nothing else.

It's a sad thing that someone is too afraid to go back to their home after living there for over 50 years.

Real "hard men" beating up an 89 year old woman, I hadn't heard of this case before reading it here but it's shocking what happened to her.
