United are profitable and well under percentages for wages. I've seen no suggestion anywhere that we would have FFP issues. I've read it is simply United don't want to spend the money required to get that deal done.

Im little disappointed we dont have another signing by now. Thought we be little more organised and ready by now

i am too but all signs are were trying to buy from direct rivals which is never going to be easy unless you throw in a ridiculous bid

United could easily do it. 50m a year spread over a 5 year contract.

i would say at spending 200+million on a player and adding his wages we would likely fast turn around our current standings in relation to FFP. report was in marca saying that united and city refused due to FFP also taking into account they would still likely want a DM at the very least too

thats just his wages without adding the transfer fee

I read it that only Real Madrid and Manchester United could buy Neymar without any FFP violations.

The talk in Madrid is Benzema will make way,he might not be the player he was but he does all the donkey work for Ronaldo and Bale, he's more of a link man these days than an out and out CF.

I dont rate Bale as a DM either. Or are people just thinking we should replicate the success of Pep last year and try to rely on offence over defence. Without fixing the DM issue we wont improve much.

They will be rotated, towards the end of last season even Ronaldo was dropped from the squad for league gamea after champions league game

What about Oriel Romeu for DM. Seems like a perfect jose player and should be easy enough to get.

A Bale would improve United more than a DM on his own. It was not defence that cost United last season, it was lack of goals scored.

Agree but Part of the reason we didn't score enough goals was because our midfield was so restricted with the lack of a proper defensive midfielder. Pogba had to play too deep far too often we came up stuck in big games because our midfield was playing so deep.

Might not be a million miles away from that figure if he's demanding a certain amount after tax.

So maybe another e25 a year on wages.

Is it worth an outlay like that? What happens if makes noises about moving back to Spain after 3 years and his contract ticks down? Not sure if you can rely on a sell on value at the top end of the market these days.

The midfield is restricted in some games because that's the way the manager plays the game. The midfield wasn't restricted in games where we were the better team and in the games against direct rivals the midfield is restricted because we surrender possession and retreat.

That's a tactical strategy, sign anyone you like for midfield and that won't change.
With JM, one full back will always be conservative, the wide attackers will always have to track back.

Correct. I'd like a dm just because Carrick is getting on. I do think we have enough there to compete in the league at the very least and a star like Bale would be a better buy.

That said Bale isn't happening and I'd say Jose is mischief making. We probably will sign a dm before the window closes.

I'm more worried about left back than anything tbh. Shaw is still a doubt as to whether he can play a decent run of games and the other options are sub par.

Spurs holding talks about signing Aurier.Levy not willing to go above €20 million including bonuses etc. He really lives up to the stereotype, cheapskate image.
We should offer €22 million just to piss him off for all the times he's quoted us stupid fees for players.

Sure I still fear we wont have the firepower and a Bale (or an otherattcking option more realisticly) is still needed. We only score 54 goals last year in the league and the majority of them were scored by a player we have lost.

While I expect other players to step up and help out this year, I think its unrealistic to expect all players who under perfomred last year goals wise to set up this year.

A lot of people in here expect all under performers to magiclly regain their shooting boots and I think while some will, most wont.

Id love to see Rashford, Martial, Pogba, Herrera, Felliani, Lingard, Miki all step up and add more goals from their tallys last year, but I really think its wishful thinking to assume all will add signigant numbers to their totals from last year.

A new attacking player purchase would hopefully not only add goals from that player, but hopefully inspire others to get the finger out and join in.

I would like to see an attacking option and a DM signed before the close of the window.

Intereeting you mention Joses tactics but then focus on the wide areas. When discussing a DM being needed maybe you should look at the central areas?

JM had his chelsea side with Frank Lampard banging in 12-15 goals or so a season in the league, last year Pogba got 5 PL goals. Chelsea midfield had Makelele DM, Essien box to box and Frank attacking. If Jose could get a DM to solidify his midfield Pogba would be like a new signing and take on a Lampard-esque role.

Who the F is saying not to buy a DM? United aren't limited to a certain number of signings.

It is regularly touted that this magical 'DM' will mean the wide players will be freed up also as this dude is supposed to cover across. That's what I keep reading. As for freeing up Pogba...does he not have some ridiculous stats for hitting the woodwork last year? That would suggest he is free enough, in most every game we played someone (Carrick, Fellaini, Herrerra) was tasked with playing more defensively, we always played with one of these DMs, there is no player out there living or dead who will make the difference people think he will.
I would say Carrick needs replacing on age grounds but that's the only reason really.

Could be utter BS but whoscored have Pogba playing DM 20 times last season.
