I'm sitting here in my apartment in Frankfurt, having just watched Roger Federer reach yet another Wimbledon final. It's an incredible achievement for a man of his age, and must surely cement his status as the greatest tennis player of all time.

As I polished off my glass of wine (a wonderful 2013 Barolo, heavy on the silky tannins, stone fruits, and with a classic mid-weight nose profile), and watched Roger give yet another truly humble and gracious interview, it got me thinking that I share so much in common with the man.

Like me, Roger pays an extraordinary attention to detail, and has a work ethic and professionalism that continuously ranks him above his peers. He has an uncanny ability to read a situation, and to take strong combative action when needed. He keeps himself in incredible shape, and while I have never reached the pinnacle of any sport, my times in 10k, half marathon, and triathlon are the envy of men 15 years younger than me. He's a huge believer in the restorative powers of sauna - a belief I'm fully in agreement with.

He took some time out last year when he knew his mind and body weren't with it. This was a brave decision, and it has stood him well. I took some time out myself last year to refocus and recharge my batteries. The highlight of this was spending a number of weeks in the Canadian wilderness building a log cabin from the ground up with a number of other people. I got back in touch with the essence of what makes me a human, and what I have to give to the world. In Roger's case, this is at least two or three more Grand Slam titles; in my case, it represents continuing to be at the vanguard of European Finance.

So is there anyone in the public sphere who you see many of the same attribute and qualities in as yourself? I've received a few nasty PM's recently from people who appear to share many of the same attributes as Cheech and Chong, or Luke 'Ming' Flanagan, but I'm not going to tar everyone on this site with the same brush.

This has to be the w4nkiest thing I've read in all my life. Congradulations.

Di Caprio. Really impressed by him and if there's any mainstream celebrity I'd look up to and try to model myself on it'd be him. All his own man, never caught up in celebrity bullsh*t, does whatever he wants and gives zero f*cks. Seems an authentic guy and not one of the countless who're in it for financial gain. And of course his outlook towards dating and women is rock solid for the guy he is.

I remember when I cut my hair in a bob people were telling me I looked like Anne Doyle :pac:

Personally wise I'd resonate a lot with people who kind of float through life oblivious to most things, who do their own thing and don't give much of a fcuk about anything. I like Stevie Nicks. She's cool.

I'd probably be most like Alecia Moore aka Pink. She likes a laugh and a drink. She's a good mam and she's honest. She stands up for what she believes in. She's strong and damn good at her job.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with his dating approach. Maybe he has zero interest in marriage and he seems fairly upfront about the whole thing. I'm sure the women who date him know the score. And if they don't, they should. He's been with a procession of hot women, love, you're not different! :pac:

Yep and I have to admire him for that and it's something I agree with. He's likely to have seen so many peers riddled from divorce payments and the like and seeing peers cheat on their spouse and having to deal with the obvious drama and scandal from it. Casual relationships sort the whole thing, no baggage over your head, no drama, no secrecy and deception.

Richard Dawkins - I used to be pretty good at science but now don't touch it at all, I am firmly convinced I am right and lecturing other people will change their minds, have become more cantankerous and opinionated as I get older, and I enjoy arguing with people online.

    No.
Unlike you I don't see anyone in public life who is quite as accomplished as I am in my own way. I'm quite my own person and feel rather unique. Aren't you? Do you need celebrities to feel approved and fulfilled?
