    Friends From College

Netflix has amassed a veritable sitcom dream team for its latest series.
The streaming giant has handed an eight-episode order to Friends From College, a half-hour comedy starring ? hold onto your hats! ? How I Met Your Mother?s Cobie Smulders, Key & Peele?s Keegan-Michael Key, The Grinder?s Fred Savage and Ben and Kate?s Nat Faxon. Rounding out the insane ensemble is Annie Parisse (Person of Interest, The Following) and relative newcomer Jae Suh Park (The Mindy Project)

And the show?s pedigree?s nothing to sniff at either: The project hails from Nick Stoller (The Grinder, The Carmichael Show, as well as The Neighbors film franchise), who will exec produce and write the series with Francesca Delbanco. Stoller will also direct all eight episodes.
Friends From College ? which marks Smulders? first significant TV gig since How I Met Your Mother ended two years ago ? centers on a group of friends who went to Harvard together and are now facing down their forties and experiencing a range of success, or lack thereof, both professionally and domestically. With interwoven and oftentimes complicated relationships with one another, Netflix calls the series a ?comedic exploration of old friendships, former romantic entanglements and balancing adult life with nostalgia for the past.?
Production will begin this fall in New York

Reviews are coming out and they are not good at all.

Yep, the trailer didn't exactly wow me..

.. but the reviews are pretty damning!

Hope Ozark gets better reviews next week.

3 episodes in and it's OK.. not hilarious but entertaining enough and some good music too.

Thought I would love this, and it is painful. The characters are not likeable and keep doing stupid things for no good reason, and the comedy is not there. Big disappointment, don't think I will bother finishing.

    Tho soundtrack is good.

I've watched the first 3 and while most of the characters are either bad people or boring, I'm really enjoying Fred Savage.

Did a binge watch of the whole thing and enjoyed it for what it was.. relatively entertaining but never laugh out loud funny. Probably the most unlikeable group of people ever committed to screen.. bar Fred Savage and Billy Eichner who were both great.

I reckon it'll be the next victim of Netflix's spate of cancellations.

Agreed that Fred Savage and Billy Eichner are the best thing in this. The characters aren't well developed and the show doesn't do much to show us why they're even friends with each other. It has some small moments that I enjoyed, in particular Keegan Michael Key's bemused reaction to a particular joke at a wedding is particularly entertaining and as a result I feel this would have been better as a straight-up sitcom in some ways without all the relationship melodrama.

I thought this was some Friends spin off/sequel going by the title, like Saved by the Bell - The College Years.

    I need some sleep

I think this is a bit of a Marmite show. I'm 3 episodes in and I think it's working really well, I've laughed out loud several times. People are right in saying it doesn't have much depth but I'm really enjoying it. Billy Eichner should be in everything.

I think the show had great potential that was wasted with the affair plot. The premise of six old college friends of or near 40 who revert to childishness when they get together, now being together more regularly when Ethan and Lisa move to New York was decent. The whole affair that we were constantly told the reason for but never actually shown was a dud. Each episode consisted of Sam telling or planning to tell Ethan that they had to end the affair, then having sex or planning to have sex anyway. Ethan was the main character but none of his motivation ever seemed clear. He didn't seem dissatisfied in his marriage. He didn't actually seem to give a shít about Sam either. He just seemed to be married and having an affair because that's what the script said he was doing.

I'd have liked seeing more of them acting like idiots around each other and seeing the non-group partners get frustrated. The affair could have come later if the writers had wanted to add drama but only if it was earned by the writing.

The is so much acting talent in this and it's wasted with very weak scripts.

    Fred Savage is Awesome!

I'm quite surprised at this considering the reviews for season 2 were better than season 1. Maybe the viewing figures weren't enough.
