Rubbish: Pay for a skip, or save money and have somebody collect it?

I'm trying to get rid of stuff in the back garden so I put it on one of the free to take away websites. Now, I'm plagued with people saying they'll remove it for a "small fee" and the like.

In truth, I'll most probably need to pay for a skip to remove it for about 6 times the price. This old garden/house stuff can't be traced to me and these people are, and have been for years, operating freely on these websites so I... could surely comfort myself with the idea that... they are disposing of this waste in an environmentally responsible and legal way at a cheaper price due to, em, greater efficiencies. At worst, if caught I could like all the other people who use them plead ignorance...

    What would you do?

Would you choose a much cheaper unofficial waste collector? 13 votes

Hell, yes. It's all about the money.

Hire a skip or get a van/trailer and take it to the dump yourself.

    What exactly is the rubbish?
Could any of it be recycled or re used?
Would you consider using a skip bag and have you shopped around for a skip.(Prices can really vary)
Have you looked at going to the local dump/recycling center?

You wouldn't be the first person to pay someone to haul your junk knowing full well it'll be dumped at the side of some Road the first chance the person gets.

You won't be the last person either.

All I can say is be shrewd as to what your getting removed. If it's some copper pipes etc (things that can be sold) then paying a small fee for someone to make more money is foolish ;)

Paying for someone to be a scumbag on ones behalf doubles the amount of scumbags.

There's a guy on the Waste forum (I never knew it existed either) the last couple of days who has been complaining about getting a fine for dumping as such a crowd illegally dumped items belonging to him and the council traced it back to him.

If you have a reasonably sized car OP, and the stuff can be broken down, can you drop it to a local bring centre?

It's probably Travellers collecting the rubbish, then just dumping it anywhere, so I hope you go through less shady channels.

Mod-Banned for the dig at travellers.

So OP you pay someone who will get rid of your stuff we know not how and while they are at it they'll case the place and tell their mates down the pub exactly how to break into your house.

Feel free to make yourself a target.

Mod-Don't post in after hours just to reach a larger audience. There are forums to suit this topic.

http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=109 Sustainability & Environmental Issues being probably the best place.
