There is a monitor with waiting times.
The EU waiting time on it always says 5 minutes.........even if it's 45 minutes.

I was through tonight in five minutes - from the LH flight from FRA. However, I had to wait over half an hour for baggage reclaim, and my bag finally appeared twenty minutes after the posted "last bag delivered" time.

I develop Superior Solitaire when I'm not procrastinating on boards.ie.

I came through on Thursday from LCY . That new segregation in the old pier 203 etc gates - they have spent all that money on that instead of improving the immigration experience ; you could not make this up.

IN fairness joining the immigration queue from LCY you get into the queue very late but the poor sods coming down from the 1xx gates had had enough of it .

For once I'll leave INIS alone - I've mentioned them enough - can someone tell me what a DAA redshirt/greenshirt does except say "not my problem bud, thats <someone else>'s issue " because all I see them doing is staring at crowds outbound or staring at crowds inbound

Kudos to Cityjet baggage handlers , < 2 mins in the wait at the belt.

Flew into T1 twice in the last month, once midday second time late evening. No queue either time. Straight through. There are more personnel on duty.

Trellheim, you haven't seen the best bit yet. It's behind the hoarding at the 200 Gates end

The changes were to segregate departing and arriving passengers. The risk up to now was that a passenger could arrive on one flight and depart on another without being seen by immigration or customs. Up until now the Pier was restricted on what flights could use it. With segregation any flight can use it - there was a 787 on the Pier last week.

1 hour delays again last night. absolutely shambolic.
surely they can sort this by now, its ongoing for several months at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,183 ✭✭✭trellheim

No matter what argument you put forward here, amazingly it turns out its always someone else's problem . If you want to get utterly frustrated read the last 46 pages.

    What time was it?

Possibly there were a load of delayed flights?

Look we all know your views on the whys and wherefores of checking CTA arrivals. You're entitled to your opinion on that, but the reality is that situation isn't likely to change anytime soon.

Faced with that reality, what could be changed is:

    1) Roll out of e-gates - we know they're coming in the next few months

    2) Expand the immigration hall - that's something the DAA could and should do and provide sufficient space to cope with peak arrival periods (in the same way that they expanded the T1 security facilities in response to the morning rush)

    3) Ryanair stagger the arrival of their Dublin based fleet at night over a longer period (probably highly unlikely).

    Two points.

Treillheim has made valid points about other ports of entry and the lack of control to do with the CTA. Despite all the excuses provided, no legally binding reason has been given for this.

Secondly, you make three suggestions to combat the problem. Instead of the putting the emphasis on airlines and the DAA to rectify it. Why dont immigration roster enough staff to man the desks during these well reported peak periods. What's the point in billy and bob being there on their own all evening when you have a large amount of scheduled arrivals due in at the same time. Desks and scanners are great, not great if they are empty or not working.

I hate to say it but it's seems typical of a public sector mentality. An issue develops and its someone else's problem. Any attempt to fix it internally will be met with the shop steward and if management aren't willing to put more money on the table, well then its "union rules bud" and back to square one.

If you don't like it well then you're told to submit an FOI, contact your local TD, ask a PQ, referred to a immigration act and hopefully, when enough hurdles have been put in front of you, you and the rest of Joe public will be so pissed off, you'll want to forget about it and move onto something else.

The whole issue is quite sad really.

These days in T1, which trellheim refers to, all booths are full 99% of the time.

It wasn't just a case of rostering more staff as you put it. It was running a large recruitment campaign to hire staff to do so, having lost a large number of staff to promotion.

Went through T1 at 0900 on thursday morning, no wait at all, 1 person in front of me.

    Fair point.

I use The T1 about half a dozen times a year and I don't recall ever seeing all booths full at any time of the year, unless this is a recent change.

I'm sure such an issue would have been highlighted by HR. Staggering promotions to reduce the impact may have been an option.

Out of interest, how long does it take to train an immigration officer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 448 ✭✭The Veteran

Trust me when I say this. There are now more immigration officers on duty than there are positions. There is absolutely no issue on the immeigration side. As suggested, anyone can ask any question they want of the Department of Justice.

I would love to know why domestic arrivals have to through immigration?

    They dont

    They dont

    Since when?

I think he means legally, they're not actually required to. Unfortunately, Dublin airport filters everyone through immigration and this entire thread has largely been about why.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 448 ✭✭The Veteran

    Since when?

As Dial Hard said, I answered your question literally as you asked it. Mixed flow means everyone presents but they are not being immigrated as such. Stupid, I know ...

So they don't have to show any documents?

Need to prove they have travelled domestically to be "not controlled"

I would love to know why domestic arrivals have to through immigration?

What has that really got to do with the issue in hand, it's off topic?

    1. There are no domestic flights late in the evening when the queues are an issue
    2. Domestic land at t2 where emigration queues are not nearly as bad as t1 due to t1 having a massive amount of landing around the same time. Vast majority of complaints are t1 related

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭Galadriel

I went through T2 on Sunday at 11.30pm and had to queue for 30minutes, there where only two staff on duty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,183 ✭✭✭trellheim

We are assured above that there are more immigration staff than immigration desks. Perhaps some surplus INIS personnel might take a stroll up to T2 and help our poor Gardai out ( Amazingly there are two immigration agencies in Dublin Airport . No one knows if they communicate or not )

    your experience suggests not.

    Jesus.. how typically Irish..

No doubt the unions aggressively protect the status quo to suit themselves and to the detriment of lower costs, better efficiency and heaven forbid a better customer experience.

INIS is due to take over immigration duties at T2 from the Garda at some point later this year (I'm open to correction on the timing).
