Irish SIM card in UK

I know this is a really basic question but I'm not that well up on the in's and out's of mobile phones!

We regularly call UK-based daughter on her UK registered mobile but with our landline plan its expensive. We're on Vodaphone and I understand Vodaphone to Vodaphone mobile calls are free. So all she needs to do is to put an Irish VP SIM in her UK phone?

Any problems with doing this more or less permanently?

Any advise greatly appreciated.

Vodafone will be within their right to terminate her service.

It would be easier to install an app such as viber. Once your both within wifi or 3G coverage ye can chat for as long as ye like for free.

Going down the route you suggested would require the person in the UK to either switch SIM cards, which if their phone was bought from one of the UK carriers might not be as easy as you think due to phones being carrier locked, or carry a second phone. Having an app such as viber or the likes cuts out all the hassle.

Dual sim non-contract phone, I know someone who does this from a non-EU country living here - Irish sim and other country sim in the phone.

Thanks for the suggestion re Vibes. Unfortunately daughter doesn't have access to wireless so we'd be calling her via the app using mobile network. So what you're saying is this won't incur charges?

Only just the mobile data costs and most if not all plans would include a data allowance, the app doesn't use much data.
